Portland isn’t just in our name, it’s in our blood. We were born from the creativity which the city thrives. Founded by industry pioneers who had no rules or playbook, nevertheless helping shape the Portland beer scene we love today. Everyday we pursue with the same passion and thirst that we had brewing our first beer in 1986. Our dedicated group of brewers brings that passion into every batch, seeking that new amazing flavor. From that passion, each beer is created to celebrate “Portland Originals” like you, who are the creators, old and new, who make up this beautiful city we call home.
Admin Note: Portland Brewing Company merged with Saxer Brewing Company in 2000. In 2004 they sold the company to Pyramid Breweries out of Seattle. The Portland Brewing facility was then renamed MacTarnahan's Brewing Company later that year. In 2008 Pyramid Brewing was acquired by Magic Hat Brewing. In 2010 Magic Hat was bought by North American Breweries. Finally in 2012 Florida Ice & Farm Co. (FIFCO USA) acquired North American Breweries and with it the Portland Brewing brand. In 2013, FIFCO announced it would go back to the Portland Brewing Company name in order to better capitalize on the brands original roots.

From Oct 2006
Poured from 12oz bottle a slightly hazy medium gold with a smallish head of foam that quickly shrunk to a broken fine layer.
The smell was hard to determine because of how deilicate it was...maybe just a bit of roasted malt in the nose.
The taste has a small bit of roasted malt up front with just a slight hint of grain and a little bitterness in and through the finish and... that's it. Pretty disappointing.
Bottom line: Not much going on with this one and not really worth trying, imho.

From Aug 2006
Poured from 12oz bottle a cloudy light gold with a smallish head of foam that quickly shrunk leaving a broken, fine layer.
The smell is quite light but I note some citrus and wheat.
The taste is well...where *is* the taste? There's a bit of wheat present and an ever so slight hint of, umm...I'm reaching here....citrus? Man, this is maybe the blandest brew my palate has ever encountered in my years of drinking micros. I mean, it's not offensive, it just doesn't have any character that you can reflect upon after you swallow it. Wow. That being said, it's probably a big seller in the markets that carry it. ;^)

Deep golden color. Sweet malty nose with oranges, toffee and brandy through out. Fully body with fairly yeasty mouth, a lot more bubblegum and cloves become apparent. Good, but not great.

From old tasting notes. Brown liquid. Bubbly tan head. Fragrant, roasted malt nose is redolent of cocoa. Tangy, sour roasted malt flavor. Bitter hop finish. Somewhat light body in flavor.

From old tasting notes. Copper red color topped by a thick bubbly beige head. Bittersweet roasted malt flavor has an intense maltiness offset by a big spicy hop finish. Long bitter aftertaste.
