A mild, inoffensive lager, typical of all lagers brewed in all developing countries. I know the Ethiopians can do better than this. Pass.

Pours very pale gold to straw with wafer thin bright white head. The aroma is nice thick malt sweetness, grainy malts and corn. The taste is sweet sugary flavor notes with mild corn and faint grain in the background. The finish is thin and watery with a hint of metal.

courtesy of ibrew2or3. Some shaman did put a spell on this African brew ... well it actually made the beer a lot more enjoyable than their carribean counterparts. Although not the best, the beer remained drinkable. Aroma and taste are the same. Loaded with grains, leaves a metalic aftertaste. Add something of corn with very light sweetness. Hard to make this beer look better than what it is.

Bottle. Hazy pale yellow color with a disappearing big white head. Aroma of malt, a bit of hops and hints of fruits. Flavor starts sweet with some malt and finishes with light bitterness and notes of hops. Rather watery. Not good but nothing really offensive.

Hazy dull straw. Toasty, papery nose. Slight honeyish accent in the grainy taste. Watery finish with more paper. Bleh.

(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, pilsener golden with a dense, white head leaving some neat lacing. Fairly clean malt aroma. Medium body with a sweet, malty character - no hops though. Tasted at The Axum Cafe in San Francisco. 210307

Sometimes the world is strange. Just after I've first heard that this beer was available in the US, a colleague brought it to me straight from Ethiopia. It is pale yellow and rather hazy. The nose includes a strange but obvious bubblegum aroma. It is surprisingly malty with a velvetty soft mouthfeel, is bready and slightly grassy, and actually not bad at all. My bottle stated it being 4.3% though, so maybe there are two versions of this beer?
