Had this during my trip to Otaru in the winter of 2012, I thought I’d rated it already. On tap at the brewery served in the traditional ceramic mug which made it hard to appreciate the beers appearance but it definitely had a luscious head of foam. A good solid dunkel bock with a smooth full mouthfeel.

Backlog, bottled, enjoyed in 2008. Color is quite dark for a Weizen (ref: Schneider). Aroma’s of wheat, malt/grain, sour fruit. Flavor is true Weizen, wheat-malty, refreshing. Flavor lingers for a long time and there’s even a hint of bitterness.

Draft at JBT 3 year anniversary. Sofy honey, orange, peach flavor with nice tartness. Very soft carbonation, nicely fruity with lots of citrus to balance the sweet honey. Excellent.

From the cask at Horn. 2013 release. Huge tan head at first, but settled down later in the night. Big jammy fruit nose, raisins, plums, fudge. Flavor of plums, cherries, raisins, chocolate fudge, alhocol heat and a good bitter finish. Rich and delicious. Some bit of wod and licorice. Very smooth. Amazingly drinkable for an Eisbock, not cloying at all. Wonderful.

I had this on tap at the brewery in Otaru and again recently from a take-away bottle. It has a lightly spiced aroma, fairly weak for a hefeweizen but has the classic hefeweizen look pouring a cloudy golden color with lots of foam, good lacing and slow dissipated. The taste is an of an average white beer. Otaru seems to make solid beers to style. Overall, it is good but not outstanding.

dark golden color. Lovely hoppy Bose with toasted malt. Med full bodied with excellent amount of bitterness. Dry. Unfortunately some ductile creep in which took this down a notch.

alcohol, raisins, burnt sugar in nose. Rich, but well balanced mouth. Alcohol not that present. Smooth, tons of burnt raisins. Rich, but never cloying. A touch of woodiness. Superb. Lingering burnt raisin, brown sugar finish. For 13.5%

Bottled. 100% organic. Soft malt nose with peppery, citrus hops. Very gentle and subtle, and wonderful. Clean. The real think. Deep, bright golden color with a huge, fine, pillowy head and a constant stream of bubbles. Rich and bready malt flavor, great hop background: subtle as they must be, yet clean and tasty, with good citrus and pepper. A bit chalky. Lig but full mou, nice carbonation. Is is a great helles. I would love to have this on tap side ny side with their pils. Maybe next year!

Been waiting 4 years to try this! Draught at Beer Horn. Lovely crimson glow coming from a dark brown beer. Tall, thick, pillowy head. Rich caramel-munich malt nose, chewy chocolate. Big chocolate fudge flavor, slight alcohol burn, but generally drinks much lower than 8.5%. Raisins and dates. Quite lovely—very drinkable and displays luscious malts. Good stuff.
