Rua do Lar Adventista (LAPI), Avintes, 4430-639, Portugal
Description
Founded in 2015, Lupum - or “wolf” in Latin - is the first and only farmhouse brewery in Portugal. Born as an experiment in the cellars of Antonio Lopes' family farm, the moniker was inspired by the founder's family name, meaning “son of wolf.” A laboratory technician turned mad scientist, António began with a singular goal - to brew what he loved, and to brew it well.
Nestled within the hills of the Douro River in the quiet parish of Avintes, just minutes inland from the infamous wine cellars of Porto, Lupum continues to stay true to its wild DNA: strong beers with a daring twist for the adventurous of heart, a work of love with total irreverence for the mandates of convention. Audentes fortuna iuvat - fortune favors the bold - and discovery belongs to those who seek it.

Sehr süßer Beginn. Schokolade, Datteln, weich. Eher wenig Alkohol, hohe Süffigkeit, zum langen Abgang steigend schokoladig. Gut! 12/12/12/12//12

330ml bottle bought at Catraio. The oily pour reveals a pitch black body under a quite decent brownish head, lacing rings down the glassware. Inviting on the nose, smoothly roasted with scents of dark berry skins and cocoa. Well blended flavours of cocoa and raspberry. Lingering malt-berry finish, very smooth on the swallow. Good drinking. (Hotel room, Porto 09.09.2023).

Taster, draught at Catraio in Porto. Spotty lacing from a covering white head. Cloudy orange-coloured body. Inviting hop fruity smell, hints of grapefruit and apricot. Grapefruit up front to the taste buds, moments of peaches and lemon as well. A distant not of resinous bitterness to the ending. Fine depth. Pretty good. (Porto, 09.09.2023).
