Draft at Cypress, 3/27/23. Hazy bright yellow pour. Really interesting flavor from the prickly pear and the hibiscus. Getting a lot of the cactus fruit and floral flavor and not a ton of the hop here. Easy drinker. Fun beer. Probably not one I want to session a ton of, but fun as a once off.

Draft at Cypress, 3/27/23. Interesting mix with the base stout flavors. Small pour is plenty for me, but it works pretty well. Plus, I learned about walnut syrup.

Draft at Cypress, 1/31/22. Dark brown, small light brown head. Tons of flavor, cinnamon / other spices, vanilla, and a bunch of other stuff. Bit of peppery spice to it as well. Damn good.

Bourbon barrel aged 'impy' by this to me unknown craft brewery in New Jersey. Moussy, medium thick, ochre-ish beige, opening and slowly dissipating head, black robe with thin burgundy edges. Strong bouquet of hot chocolate sauce prepared with cognac, vanilla-scenting oak wood, latté macchiato, blackberry juice, very clear bourbon, walnut oil, caramel, toasted bread, dried prunes, melting mocha ice cream, a sharpish 'sting' of liquorish candy oddly piercing through, 'borstbollen' even, shoe polish. Quite fruity onset with impressions of blue plum, blackberry and elderberry, sweet core with a clear sour edge, a bit lactic so possibly infected; soft to almost flat carb, full oily mouthfeel. Toffeeish and molasses-like malts, toasted edges and a dash of bitter chocolate but generally a bit 'thinnish' for this style, with that weird sour aspect continuing, as if a drop of balsamico has been added; peppery hops and astringent woody tannins in the finish, but more astringency comes from very hot, spicy bourbon, taking over in the end but still battling with that sour element. Side notes of liquorish, bayleaf and clove briefly appear. This is somehow infected, with a weird and frankly rather unpleasant sour streak running through it all, impairing drinkability; from a tried and classical concept as American B.B.A. stout I expect more thickness, less sourness and more rotundity. There is certainly potential in here, but the sourness has to be dealt with - this is not intended as a sour stout, after all - and the booze can be toned down a bit as well. Points for the agreeable aroma, but not for flavour...
