Description
At Moon Dog we love crafting bloody delicious beers that are fun and a little bit different. We've been doing it since 2010 at our rad brewery in the backstreets of inner Melbourne’s Abbotsford. Over the years we’ve grown a heap, adding our tropical brewery bar paradise, the ballroom oasis function space, and a freakin' big fancy production brewery to keep more delicious beers flowing. We’re a proudly independent, Australian owned craft brewery, still run by the same guys that started it all those years ago.

My 100th Moon Dog rating. Canvent. A tribute to Fantales, an evidently unpopular discontinued cinema chocolate. Black. A tan head is immediately gone. Smells of dark caramel, some chocolate. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Sweet with quite singed and slightly fudgy caramel, milk chocolate in the background. Not much stout though.

Bottle. Black. A tan head never really forms. Rather medicinal aroma with dark sugars, cherry, mocha, some peat. More stout in the taste with roast, chocolate, seaweed, strong bread. Bitter at the end with the rum barrel making its presence felt without so much of the spices. Peat creeps up. I just didn't want the tricked up bit of the rum at all. At this rate I shall be skipping Black Lung XXIII.

Draft at Heart of Darkness, Singapore. Poured a clear, almost black colour with a thin, broken, off-white head. The aroma is chocolate and light roasted malt. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a smooth, rich, roasty, milk chocolate, lactose, light red berry fruit, light liqourice bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation. We all like chocolate sweeties but not sugar bombs. Nicely balanced.

Draft at Heart of Darkness, Singapore. Poured a clear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is big passionfruit. The flavour is moderate sweet and sour, with a smooth, rich, biscuit malt, tart juicy passionfruit palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

From a 650ml bottle on 1/10/2023 (shared with Desmond on Grand Final night). Described as a 'Barrel Aged Wild Strong Belgian Blonde Ale on Nero d'Avola grapes'. Pours a dirty golden/light amber with virtually no head. Has a light nose of fermenting fruit and a touch of oak. Has lots of white wine to it on the sip, with fermenting white grape dominating. Finishing with a light oaky moderately tart sour. Doesn't present as 8.4% and I can't detect the slightest bit of Belgian character in it. Drinkable but ultimately a bit bland and forgettable

330ml can at Kura’s Krafts, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy yellow golden colour with a short-lived, frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, toffee, light citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter and sweet, with a crisp, fresh, malt, light lemon citrus, herbal, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Can. Pretty hazy orange with a good cm of dense white head. Aroma of stone fruit - grilled apricot, peach - with a sharper citrus - lemon more than grapefruit - edge, bread. That citrus top not gives it real shape, and there's also some orange and lime upon a swig, with some honeydew melon and light mango joining the stone fruit too. Perhaps surprisingly, not a case of too many cooks nor of too many hop varieties.

330ml can into glass at The Rib Room, Mater Hill. Pale amber beer with a medium white head. Only the occasional bubble. Malty nose. Very malty taste, caramel finish. Possibly the sweetest, flattest Lager I've ever had. Super easy drinking.

330ml can at Farmers Bar, Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a slightly hazy yellow golden colour with a very short-lived fizzy white head. The aroma is light pomegranate. The flavour is moderate sour, with a light, crisp, light tart pomegranate, light floral palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat light and a little one dimensional, but refreshing.
