About
The Ægir Brewery was established by Aud Melås and Evan Lewis. The brewery was named after the god of the seas, Ægir, from the Norse Mythology. He was according to Odin the best brewer in the world.
Ægir Brewery was one of the first craft beer breweries in Norway – and definitely has the most distinctive brewpub. Inspired by Ægir´s mythological hall under the sea, the brewpub is built to give the feel of a Viking style longhouse. You have to go at least a thousand years back in time to find an atmosphere like this; open fire, dragon carvings and a stave church roof that wasn´t built in a day.
Since the start Ægir Brewery has continued to grow and in 2012 expanded with a brand-new production facility that today boasts a capacity of a million litres per year.
The export marked became very important for the brewery and made up an increasingly large part of the yearly volume. At some point Ægir Brewery was exporting to twelve different countries.

The canned beer production was moved from Flåm early in June 2023 to Amundsen Bryggeri in Oslo. Only draught beers served at Flåmsbrygga will be produced locally in Flåm. The brewpub and hotel, Flåmsbrygga, was sold early in 2025. In 2025, over 40 percent less Ægir beer was sold in grocery stores than the year before. From June 2026 Amundsen takes over the Ægir brand and all beer production.

Fra fat på Apollon: lett uklar kobbergylden med utmerket cremeskum helt ned. Floralt anslag med furunål og kjeks i tillegg. Et rognebær lurer i bakgrunnen. Fin bitterhet i avslutningen.

On tap at Apollon Tønsberg. An almost clear copper colored beer with a nice looking off-white head. Curtains. The aroma has some diacetyl-ish toffee malts, with some bread and a nice piney hoppiness. It's super smooth on the palate, almost velvety, medium bodied and not too sweet. Decent bitterness. Bready malts with some toffee and a good piney touch. Medium length finish. A nice thirst quencher. 240619

Nice bubblt-creamy longlasting head, clear orangy golden color. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish floral, pine needles, grass, leafs, fruit stones, dusty hops, flowers, dried fruits, light malts, bark, alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet sour-ish boozy, fruit stones, sap, leafs, harsh hops, grass, alcohol, soil, pine needles, dried fruits, bark, flowers, cardboard, hints of caramel. Longlasting harsh bitterness, slightly boozy mouthfeel. Fair enough.
