About
The company was founded by Alastair Hook in 1999. He started the brewery in a small lock-up on an industrial estate, before moving to the Greenwich Brewery, and then to a site on nearby Blackwall Lane in 2010. It was purchased by SABMiller in May 2015. As part of the agreements made with regulators before Anheuser-Busch InBev was allowed to acquire SABMiller in 2016, Meantime was sold to Asahi Breweries of Japan in October 2016. Brewing moved to Fuller's in May 2024.

(Bottle 75 cl) Unclear, greyish brown with an off-white head. Slightly ashy, burned aroma. Taste of very hard roasted malts, but yet sort of a soft mouthfeel. Some underlying sweetish notes of (dried) fruit and chocolate leading up to a very dry finish. 120805

Bottle, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Deep golden colour. Pleasant hoppy aroma (my wild guess would have been Cascade and Chinook, but apparently it’s just "pound upon pound of Fuggles & Goldings", so what do I know - it smells good anyway). Refreshing hoppy flavour, reasonably well balanced. Not the most bitter IPA around, but bitter enough for me. Nice.

Rerate, 750 ml corked "champagne" bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Aroma of roast malts, cold coffee, woodwork and unsweetened cocoa. Moderately roasty and quite dry flavour, notes of mild cofee and dark chocolate, some woody hints too. Original rating: 750 ml "champagne" bottle, RBESG 2005, Grand Tasting. Dark brown colour. Aroma of roast malts, oak and spices. Surprisingly moderate roasty flavour.

Bottled. Cloudy yellow beer with a strongish head. The aroma is citric/banana and the flavour is dry, citric and banana. The beer is like what a wheat beer should be like.

An unclear brown beer with a thin light brown head. The aroma is sweet with the most dominant note being that of prunes. The flavor is sweet with notes of leather and roasted malt, the roastiness giving it a dry end.

Bottled 75cl @RBESG’05
A bit hazy golden, not much head. Yeasty, a bit musty with hoppy nose. Crisp hoppyness, which carries long in aftertaste. 5/2/7/4/15 3.3

Bottle. Interesting to read other raters thoughts on this beer. Very dark brown. No head to speak of, some chocolate, not al lot else. Expected some dark/roast malts but just got plain choc/cocoa. Mouth is ok with more dark choc. Needs a bit more though. Slightly acidic tongue tingling finish. However, doesn’t get sweet and flabby either.

(Bottle 33 cl) Orangey golden and hazy with a bubbly head that quickly collapses and almost vanishes completely. Yeasty sediment. Lovely fruity esters with the typical notes of citrus and banana. Very dry palate. Meantime really manages to brew very well to style - this is no exception. 200505

(Bottle 33 cl) Comes as "Sainsbury’s Vienna Style Amber Lager" at 5,0% ABV. Beautiful dark amber-colour with some red thrown in. Clear and filtered without much head. Very soft with a sweetish malt-character. Caramel and nuts in there too. Not much bitterness. Close to perfect for it’s type. 200405

(Bottle 33 cl) Comes as "Sainsbury’s Cologne Style Lager" Golden, filtered, unpasteurized beer. Soft, slightly sweetish with a discreet bitterness - quite pleasant actually. Sainnsbury’s calls this a "Cologne style" AND a "Lager" - well, you cannot really be both can you? 120305
