Description
Baeren Brewery is located in Morioka, Iwate prefecture which belongs in far north up from Tokyo Japan. We have some traditional and old vintage brewing equipment from southern district of Germany and carried here into Morioka. The traditional way of beer brewing still lives on here and Mr. Miyaki who got certificated as a Brewmeister in Berlin, Germany makes great and beautiful beers. The location of our brewery is perfect also for hiking because it is located near the center of the city and stands just by Route 4 but at the same time surrounded by a forest, which means you can easily and naturally feel the nature around.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Bright shiny yellow, pale, with lace. big lemon nose, acidic and nice, with a bit of malt and hop beneath, but mostly nice lemonade. Flavor is sweet lemonade at first, then tangy, then some malt flavors enter, and finally the finish is bitter hops and tangy citrus. It’s a real radler, with nice lemon character. Overall, I don’t generally drink the stuff, but it’s decent. Very crisp and refreshing too.

dark brown color. Good roastiness. Light bodied rounded. Very good rendition of the style. Very dry and lots of roastiness, which you don’t see so often in Japanese craft beer. Highly drinkable. Excellent session beer.

Draught at Eni-bru. Cloudy orange-bronze color, interesting appearance. Aroma of wheat, banana, peat. Weird, but interesting. Flavor of big peat, esters, peach, wheat. Big first impact is almost completely negative, but it gets softer and a bit of sweetness comes out. Has a rather raunchy finish of bitter grains. Strange and barely likeable. I don’t really see where they are going with this series. They should work with Bamberg rauchmalz instead.

Bottle from the brewery. Soft, malty nose. Grains, cereal, slight grassy hops. Deep gold with a huge head. Tasty malt flavor, crackers, bread, medium sweetness, light grass and bitterness. A proper helles for sure, with luscious malts. Mild and malty. Full, smooth palate. Really quite tasty. Great, soft mouthfeel. Here, Baeren is in their territory.

Bottle sent from the brewery. Malty, rich caramel nose. Very chewy with some chocolate and a bit or dried fruit. Orange-red color with lace, a bit cloudy. Rich caramel malt flavor, chewy fudge almost, light fruit, with a bit of earthiness and medium bitterness in the finish. Decent, nice malt and hop bitterness, but a bit one-dimensional and not all that interesting.

Draught at Q-Brick. Huge peat aroma with some caramel. Amber-orange color with lace. Flavors of peat, earthy, Chinese medicine, caramel, and alcohol. Very unpleasant at first, though I kind of got used to it. Still, it didn’t really work. Like a shot of Laphraigh dropped into a bitter.

33 cl bottle vintage 2011, bottled 28.01.11
Aroma is somewhat porter‐like with dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Dryish flavour has semi‐dark milk chocolate and coffee. Very good, one of the best japanese beers.

Bottle shipped from the brewery. Malty aroma, grains and cereals, with citrus, spice, grass, wheat, a touch of caramel. Malt definitely leads, nice and intersting. Deep golden, heading towards, orange, somewhat pastel, with a medium head that quickly goes to lace. Sweet and malty flavor, some lemon, crass, lots of caramel, well, for a saison! Neither dry not very bitter, so overall it’s much more like a rather typical blonde. Well, there is a nice bitterness kicking in late in the finish. A bit too sweet and malty, and thus not all that saison-like,  but pretty nice. Malt character is really quite German.
