Description
Baeren Brewery is located in Morioka, Iwate prefecture which belongs in far north up from Tokyo Japan. We have some traditional and old vintage brewing equipment from southern district of Germany and carried here into Morioka. The traditional way of beer brewing still lives on here and Mr. Miyaki who got certificated as a Brewmeister in Berlin, Germany makes great and beautiful beers. The location of our brewery is perfect also for hiking because it is located near the center of the city and stands just by Route 4 but at the same time surrounded by a forest, which means you can easily and naturally feel the nature around.

Bottle. Cloudy dark gold with a fine, high, head. Aroma of cereals, with a tart edge, fruity, big grains. Peaches, bananas absent. Slightly funk as well. Rich, thick, sweet flavor with huge cereal flavor and a nice sour edge to balance. Banana here, with peaches and spices. The rye really comes through beautifully. Smooth and full body. A wonderful roggen. They should make this a regular!

Draught at Q-Brick. It seems that they add a minimal quantity of barley malt to the recipe in order to brew it legally. Technically it is a happoshu, but there is no evident malt character to it, so I classified it as a cider. Pale gold color, slightly cloudy or hazy. Dry apple aroma. Restrained sweetness in the flavor—remarkable for Japanese apples. Nice dryness and decent sour edge. Very slight carbonation. Best Japanese-made cider by far! Not really special or funky in any way, but clean and crisp and tasty with nice apple flavor and without any over-bearing sweetness.

Bottle, 2010 Beer Series release. Deep copper color with a low, fine head. Caramel malt aroma-quite plain, with no hops noticeable. Very malty flavor with almost no hop flavor. Caramel, ok hop bitterness. Malty like a maibock! Nothing close to what I imagine in an ESB, more like a very malt-centered English pale ale. Quite tasty malt, but thumbs down on the hopping.

Roasty aroma with milk, chocolate and wood. Dark brown color, low bubbly head that vanished rather quickly. Lightly roasted flavor with milk and vanilla. Rather sweet. Very light body Decent and drinkable though not at all inspiring.

Bottle. Rich caramel and chocolate nose, with raisins and other dried fruit. Very malty. Dark brown with orange and a bubbly, thin, head. Rich caramel malt: sweet, but not overly so. Cherries, bread, nice chocolate. Not very bitter, but a bit roasty, and sweetness remarkably well controlled. Full, rich, chewy body. Quite fruity as well—dried and otherwise. A dunkel for sure, and a very good one.

Neutral aroma. Cloudy amber good lace. Mellow, well balanced flavours akin to a pale ale, definitely not a alt. Ok session beer.

Bottled. Richly roasty aroma—well smoky, with a touch of honey, crisp pilsner malt, biscuit, some fruit. Deep golden color, tall, fine, white head. Rich malt flavor, nice smoke, though much less than the nose leads one to expect—rather light, with a grassy hop finish that comes through the smoke easily. Crisp, rich, light and fresh. Nice body. A tasty all-around beer.

nice clovely banana nose. A bit off balanced, strong banana bread flavor, ok, but not as expected.
