Description
Baeren Brewery is located in Morioka, Iwate prefecture which belongs in far north up from Tokyo Japan. We have some traditional and old vintage brewing equipment from southern district of Germany and carried here into Morioka. The traditional way of beer brewing still lives on here and Mr. Miyaki who got certificated as a Brewmeister in Berlin, Germany makes great and beautiful beers. The location of our brewery is perfect also for hiking because it is located near the center of the city and stands just by Route 4 but at the same time surrounded by a forest, which means you can easily and naturally feel the nature around.

Bottle, mail order from the brewery. Rich malt nose, nutty, toast, caramel and chocolate, citrus, bit of apple. Slightly more impressive than the filtered version. Cloudy brown-orange, low thick head. Rich and nutty, malty, grainy, spicy UK hops, very nice. Full body, low carbonation. Spicy, bitter finish. A step above the filtered version.

Bottle, mail order from the brewery. Malty nose, caramel, bread, spicy hops, toast, nuts. Very rich. Medium brown color with a medium, thick white head. Rich malt, medium sweet, toasty, nutty, bready, spicy. Very complex. Full, silky body. Spicy, bitter finish. This is really well done. A great malt showcase with lovely hops as well. Moving into strong ale territory.

Can, mail order from the brewery. Deep amber, slightly hazy, thick, rocky head. Bready, doughy nose, Peaches and stone fruit esters, toast. Lovely malt flavor, rich and fruity, slightly doughy, fresh baked baguette, light hops in the finish for spiciness and a light bitterness. Full bodied. Like this one, not overly sweet, rich and malty and the yeast seems to add esters. Comes across like a proper Kellerbier.

Baeren Alt Keller Special Unfiltered Version 5% Murky amber brown color with big fluffy fast-dissipating bubbles of foam. Malty caramel and fruit aroma. Medium bodied and fairly smooth. Roasty caramel coated fruits. I’m not a big alt guy but this is solid.

Bottle, mail order from the brewery. Almost black with a tall tan head. Malty nose, toasted, roasted, light notes of chocolate and some charcoal. Also a bit fruity. Dry and roasty, more like a Schwarzbier than a Tmavy. The lack of filtration gives it a bit more body and flavor than the filtered version, but it still is too burnt and dry for my liking.

Bottle from the brewery. Toasty, slightly roasted aroma, lightly nutty, soy umami, light fruit. Almost black, with a tall, tan head. Rather toasty and roasty, low sweetness, charcoal notes. Well done, but too dry and roasted for the style in my mind. Very little sweetness.
