Description

24 February 2019. Wieze Bierfestival - cheers to Meeki, Ama Deke & the lovely Anke! Clear amber with a lasting, small, frothy, tan head; irregular lacing. Aroma of cookie dough, raisin, licorice, caramel, plum, peach, dark honey, green tea, peanuts, some plastic & cooked red cabbage. Taste is medium malty sweet, quite caramelly, some estery banana, plum & dough; light herbal bitter middle offers balance with green tea, licorice & nuts but the red cabbage note lingers in the back. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, more licorice & caramel with some warming liqueur alcohol. Needs cleaning, but it has at least some potential.

Aftertaste: little bitter, malty touch, raisins, caramel, hint of banana, sweet malts, little soapy, more caramel and some honey. Pretty decent!

27/X/18 - 33cl bottle @ Poperings Bierfestival, BB: n/a - (2018-1614) Thanks to my wife for driving me around today!
Clear pale blond beer, big irregular creamy white head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of yeast, ripe banana, slightly spicy, more orange peel, fruity touch. MF: lively carbon, medium to light body (so, little malts and lots of sugar). Taste: sweet, bit metallic, lots and lots of ripe banana and bitter banana peel. Aftertaste: more metallic going on, orange peel, more banana as well. Weird, usually VSB makes pretty decent tripels. This one seems a bit thinned out and less bitter with what's in my memory...

Clear dark orange beer, big solid creamy off-white head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: nothing but orange peel, orange peel and more orange peel. Smells more like Triple Sec than like a beer. It's hard to believe that Van Steenberge would brew something like this... Maybe it's made by De Graal, where client brewers are allowed more artistic freedom? MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: all orange peel, orange maramalade, nothing else. Totally unbalanced. Aftertaste: just more of the same, orange peel, sweetish, slightly bitter finish. What else to say?
