Description

The first-born, at least commercially, of a new brewing company in the southern part of East Flanders, already joined by two other beers meanwhile and gradually achieving local success. ‘Lightly dry-hopped’ blonde, many thanks to tderoeck for the bottle! Initially very thick and foamy, egg-white head, slowly receding and eventually reduced to a thinnish, irregular ring, over apricot-hued straw blonde beer, hazy but more ochre-ish and murky with sediment, with a cloud of yeast hanging in the glass. Aroma of freshly cut pineapple, ripe pear, bread crumbs, some luckily very faint background DMS, banana, coriander seed, orange flesh note, potato juice, honey. Estery onset, banana but not too dominant, pleasant notes of ripe pear and pineapple returning, but ‘blown away’ by a very sharp, very ‘painfully’ stinging, minerally overcarbonation filling the mouth with fizz; pale malt sweetish body with a notable breadiness to it, obviously accentuated by yeast in the end. Corianders spicy-soapy note too, as well as a citrusy touch probably coming from the dry-hopping, though the bitterness remains mostly soft and floral, gently spreading over the root of the tongue while breadiness and banana sweetishness linger. Overcarbonated and a bit ‘rough’ as a result, but otherwise not bad at all, at least for a style that is still dramatically overexposed in this country; the self-proclaimed ‘light’ dry-hopping adds a whiff of citrusy fraîcheur, but as far as I’m concerned, ‘heavy’ dry-hopping would have been an even better option…

13/10/2018 - tasting glass shared with rubin77 and some friends @ Bless Bierhappening, Zottegem. Dark brown, with tanned head. Nose is dark malts, hint of roast caramel, dark fruits. Taste is sweet caramelly dark malts, bit roast, sweet dark fruits, some spice. Damn, at this point one of the best new beers @the Bless happening for me. Maybe just a bit more roast would be perfect for me. Correct dark for me.
