Description
We're Hackney Brewery — a small, independent craft brewery from London who has been dedicated to producing the most progressive accessible styles of hop forward independent craft beer to high standards.

We’re passionate about producing high-quality beers which are not only flavourful and aesthetically pleasing but also suitable for anyone who is interested in trying good quality craft beer. We've spent years refining and progressing our recipes to keep up with people’s ever-changing taste.

We were founded in 2011 by Peter Hills and Jon Swain in a couple of railway arches in Haggerston, Hackney.

Over the years we’ve invested in state-of-the-art lab equipment, new machinery and we strive to continuously improve our processes and work to get the best out of our ingredients.

Now with a focus on Keg and Can formats with modern and US hop forward styles, we provide a complete core range of crafted styles from Session-able table beers, hop forward pales and IPA’s, hazy juice bombs, a multi award winning peach and basil sour and crystal clear craft lager.

In 2021 we opened our new site on the Blackhorse Beer Mile, High Hill Taproom, home to Hackney Brewery.

Cask at The Bell, Waltham St. Lawrence. Pale amber with a sparse white head; grapefruit aroma; sweet grapefruit taste; and pleasantly bitter. Rather one-dimensional, but miles better than the average English 4% IPA.

Cask at The Bell, Waltham St Lawrence. Deep mahogany with a ring of translucent head; earthy, oaty aroma; sweet oaty taste with some dark treacle giving body, but rather thin overall - needs more body, but otherwise quite drinkable.

Pigs Ear. Cask. Lightly hazy gold - amber beer, bubbly off white head. Palate is light and semi dry with good fine carbonation. Decent condition. Nice orangey hops with floral bittterness. Mild hop spice and lemon. Mellow white smoke in the background. Finishes light and dry with more floral bitterness and lemon. Bitterness lingers on. Decent and interesting.

Cask at Pigs Ear ’14, day 3, 04/12/14. Lightly hazed golden amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is big on spice, dark fruit peel, pepper, clove, aniseed. Taste comprises dark malt, winter cheer, spice rack, aniseed, clove, cardoman. Medium body, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Ok winter spice affair, whilst I wouldn’t likely order this again I can’t see the hate going on down below myself!

Cask at Pigs Ear ’14, day 3, 04/12/14. Very lightly hazed golden with a decent off white covering of bubbles. Nose is earthy hops, light pine, bitter orange, citric pith, straw. Taste comprises mandarin, tangerine, light grapefruit, straw, mineral tones. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Decent hoppy number, APA for me, not quite the strength or dymanics of an IPA.

Cask gravity at the Pig’s ear 2014. Aroma is leafy hop, floral citrus, polen with some tropical fruit notes. Orange golden coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Flavour is grassy, burnt grass, lemon rind hop with some unrefined sugars, grainy malts. Medium palate with a bit of grainy on the tongue. Bit of sweetness and a firm grassy / citrus hop leaf bitterness. Decent.
