Description
We're Hackney Brewery — a small, independent craft brewery from London who has been dedicated to producing the most progressive accessible styles of hop forward independent craft beer to high standards.

We’re passionate about producing high-quality beers which are not only flavourful and aesthetically pleasing but also suitable for anyone who is interested in trying good quality craft beer. We've spent years refining and progressing our recipes to keep up with people’s ever-changing taste.

We were founded in 2011 by Peter Hills and Jon Swain in a couple of railway arches in Haggerston, Hackney.

Over the years we’ve invested in state-of-the-art lab equipment, new machinery and we strive to continuously improve our processes and work to get the best out of our ingredients.

Now with a focus on Keg and Can formats with modern and US hop forward styles, we provide a complete core range of crafted styles from Session-able table beers, hop forward pales and IPA’s, hazy juice bombs, a multi award winning peach and basil sour and crystal clear craft lager.

In 2021 we opened our new site on the Blackhorse Beer Mile, High Hill Taproom, home to Hackney Brewery.

Cask at the pig’s ear fest 2013. Aroma is big cinnamon, nutmeg and mince meat. Clear copper brown colour with a fleeting head. Flavour is nutty stale malt then big Christmas spices including cinamon . touch of roast in the finish. Too much spice.

Gravity dispense at Pigs Ear ’13, 03/12/13. Lightly hazed golden with a moderate off white covering. Nose is earthy hops, light spice, caramel, bitter orange. Taste comprises caramel malt, light grapefruit, orange pith, earthy hops. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry closure. Ok but not enough hop presence for me.

Bottled 500ml ABM. Clear amber color, good white head, some lace. Fruity, candyish even bubblegummy aroma. Not like in weizen beers but like in a bear gum. Hints of honey. Light-bodied. Fruityness, sweetish maltyness, a bit lagerish notes even. Similar candy-like sweetness also in the flavor. Lacks depth.

New brewery tick! Clear golden color, small white head, some lace. Buttery, grainy aroma with some citrus hoppyness. Light to medium bodied, slightly watery palate. Nice bready hoppyness, citrus in the finish. Slightly buttery. Almost like a Czech pils although is an ale.

Bottle at home in London - sourced from Kristofferson Wines. Pours perfectly clear, pale amber with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma has lots of bready malts, hints of creamy toffee, ripe orange. Medium sweet flavor with a dominant malt character, some doughy brown bread, lightly toasted sugars, subtle toffee, mild ripe orange, melon. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with further bready malts at the forefront, berries, caramel, orange, faint grapefruit, more melon. It’s tasty stuff and certainly malt-forward.
