Draft pour at the Hop and Hound. Yesterday’s notes. Pours a near black color with a fading tan head. I don’t think I have a Baltic Porter ticked yet, and this was a very fun way to get it. Beer was a little sour in a way. A good way. Dark fruit, and just a hint of coffee. Not a whole lot of bourbon presence coming through, though I confirmed this was definitely the bourbon barrel aged version. Slightly dusty, thick tart finish. Very tasty overall. Solid beer.

On tap at Brouwer's Cafe, pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out herbal, hempy resinous hops, and biscuity malt. Flavour brings out resinous hops, herbal notes, and a big dry caramel malts backbone. Pretty well-balanced, but with a slightly sweet finish. Good stuff.

The bottle comes with plastic wax, quite annoying; it pours a hazy dark amber color with red and brown shades; large compact head. The aroma is malty and mellow with evident note of oak barrel, and roasted nuts; but also a bit metallic. Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; it has a rich malt and caramel flavor, where the vanilla from the oak is a nice component, less overpowering than in other beers; it’s sweet but without excess, and it has strong bitterness, with a light nutty touch that reminds me of the British Barley Wines, but more hop resins than in those. Possibly it’s a bit metallic, and it has some alcohol warmth in the final. Overall it’s a balanced brew, quite easy to drink among Barley Wines.

Bottle purchased from LetsPour. Pours a deep ruby black with a small tan head that dissipates quickly leaving decent lacing. Aroma is very nice - bourbon, vanilla, oak, chocolate, dark sugars. Flavor is medium sweett, light bitter, oak, bourbon, chocolate, sugars, a bit of metal. Does not live up to the promise of the aroma. Medium body.

Sample from the silver waxed base beer. The beer pours brownish-black with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Oaky aroma with notes of malt and vanilla. Full-bodied with a vinous oak character and notes of roast malt, earthy yeast and slight spice. The finish is oaky vanilla and fruity tannins. Interesting beer, above average overall.

Dark brown color; the head is short lived. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, tobacco, vanilla, spirit. Lean body, but rounder than the Terror in the Wood; good caramel flavor, moderate sweetness, some chocolate, and nice spirit barrel presence.

22 oz. bottle, courtesy of fiulijn (thanks a lot, Alex), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is very confused and full of many different things, with notes of rye whiskey, dark fruits and very subtle tartness. Flavour brings out rye whiskey barrels upfront, a little roast, and slight caramel. Better than the "in the Wood" version of this -- doesn't have the tartness on the flavour. Decent stuff, just nothing overly special.
