100th rating for this beer! Deep dark brown coloured body with a cola tint and a thinnish, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pure sugars with caramel, toffee, fruits, figs, dates, earth, candy, caster sugar, honey and way more figs than anything else - incredibly sweet smelling. Medium-bodied; Super deep toasty malts with a bit of figs, dates and earthiness along with a deep caramelised sugar flavour and some earthy notes with a good toasty and deep raisin and fig sweetness on the end that shows quite a bit of bitterness throughout, but nothing too pungent or one-dimensional - all of the deep and bitter flavours show a touch of everything with the caramelised sugars and toffee front and centre. Aftertaste is deep and strong with a great, robust and complex finish with malts, earth, toffee, yeast, sugars and a lot of grain, but more of the fruit and sugar side of things than anything else with this one. Overall, a very deep and incredibly complex beer, despite the fact that it has been aged and the pungent flavours are very well muted throughout showing some of the tastes, but nothing assertive or astringent - this is nice and mellow, while still having a lot of different flavours and complexity throughout. A nice beer, but nothing worth searching out, nor worth keeping in your cellar for more than 3/5 years - this was good, but the flavours were almost too muted and subdued compared to what they might have been if drunk fresh. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Pear Delicatessen on 18-February-2016 for US$9,90 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on 27-March-2018, just after two years of keeping this one in a cellar. 650 ml bottle. Pours a deep red/brown with moderate head. Aromas of sugary syrup, caramel, dill, and sweet malts. Flavors of caramel, light licorice, a little dill (is there sorachi in there?) and bready malts. A bit of heat and alcohol both up front and in the finish.

Bottle from Bottleworks, Seattle
The bottle comes with plastic wax, quite annoying; it pours a hazy dark amber color with red and brown shades; large compact head. The aroma is malty and mellow with evident note of oak barrel, and roasted nuts; but also a bit metallic. Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; it has a rich malt and caramel flavor, where the vanilla from the oak is a nice component, less overpowering than in other beers; it’s sweet but without excess, and it has strong bitterness, with a light nutty touch that reminds me of the British Barley Wines, but more hop resins than in those. Possibly it’s a bit metallic, and it has some alcohol warmth in the final. Overall it’s a balanced brew, quite easy to drink among Barley Wines.
Very good.

22 oz. bottle, pours amber orange with almost no head. Aroma of caramel, raisins and slight hops. Flavour brings out more of the hops than the nose suggests, with caramel, toffee and dark dried fruits - high sweetness profile. Very nice.

Bomber from Whidbey Beer Works. Pours dark amber with a foamy beige head. Aroma is like berry fruit over roasted malt. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Within limits it is like a Flemish ale that’s just missed being sour. It’s pretty dry, though there is a sweet hint, and it’s hinting at having kissed some oak. Though it hasn’t. It’s a pretty good beer, but it’s almost like it pretends to greatness. Didn’t make it that far. Like it.

Pours deep murky copper brown with thin tan head. The aroma is raisins, prunes, a bit of pine hops and some molasses. Smells nice. The taste has more hops than the nose hinted at. It seems to start with raisins, prunes and super ripe cherries. Quickly solid pine hops and resin goodness surface and take hold of the flavor. It gets a bit crystal malt like toward the finish. Enjoyable product.
