About
History goes back to 1442 but it is first mentioned as a 'Brauhaus' in 1487. In the following centuries, ownership and names changed many times till 1933 when the brewery was acquired by brewer Ferdinand Wirtz and his son Cornelius Wirtz. Since then the brewhouse is owned by the Wirtz family. The brewery was destroyed during the war but afterwards the 'Brauhaus' continued its activities though the beer was brewed under contract elsewhere.

0.5 l bottle from 'EDEKA Preller' (Breckerfeld), best before June 2018. Clear, golden with a medium large, dense, stable, white head. Sweetish, grassy, slightly floral aroma of fresh grass, some citrus and a touch of grains. Just slightly sweet, moderately bitter, quite grassy, slightly floral taste of grains, straw and traces of citrus, followed by a short, moderately bitter, quite dry, grassy and slightly metallic finish. Thin to medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Decent beer, definitely not bad for a traditional Kölsch, the only let-down is the metallic aftertaste. Will revisit this from tap at some point.

Backlog, had multiple times at the Schreckenskammer - why did I never upload my notes? Clear golden color with white head. Aroma is grains, fresh, biscuity, a bit citrusy. Taste is grainy, bready, a touch herbal hops and citrusy. This is my second favourite Kölsch from Cologne behind Päffgen.

Glass, golden beer, small head. Aroma is malt, grain, some hops. Taste is the same ok beer.

Clear pale golden colour, small frothy white head, mostly diminishing, minimal lacing. Aroma pale malts, grain, bread, grass, earthy touch. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, grainy, grassy; malty sweetbitter finish, light peppery touch, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. A refreshing and clean Kölsch.

Draught @ Schreckenskammer. Light and fresh with notes of dark bread and herbs snd with a small metallic bitterness in the finish.

Bottle, from McTapps, many thanks. Light golden color with medium white head. Aroma of malt. Taste, malt, light sour notes, lager yeast. Good.

Bottle. Aroma earthy and basementy yeast. Quite traditional. Cleae yellow to golden colour. Moderate white head. Taste is very clean, light lager yeast, nicely balanced, rather low bitterness but also rather thin body and low residual sweetness. Thin and refreshing, easy drinking. Simple clean lager bier.

The beer starts smooth, hints of sharpness, slightly sourish. The mainpart continues a bit unround, smooth but sharp. The aftertaste is a bit mouldy, typical "Erzquell-taste" (I think it is the yeast).
Not my favourite, but fits in the Erzquell-range very well. 7/10/8/7
