Description
Black Isle was started by David Gladwin in 1998. An unemployed beer lover, he set out to make world-class beer using barley and hops, grown on organic farms, without the use of destructive chemicals. Black Isle Brewing Co is Scotland’s only organic brewery; pioneering craft beer from our beautiful, wild - and sometimes wet - Highland home. Organic is at the heart of everything we do - we believe in making great tasting beer using only natural ingredients, grown without the use of harmful chemicals. We care about seriously good beer, the environment and the future of our planet.

Quite a nice drop. Malty but not overly sweet. Mellow dark berries and overarching red wine accents. A little funk maybe. Low bitterness, touches of earth. Minimal boozy kick. Really drinkable.

On the fifth day of Christmas... 0,75l bottle from the brewery that I had kept for quite a while. Dark brown pour with stbale cream head. Aromas of oak, orange (peel), candied orange, bourbon, vanilla, cream. Taste is bourbon, vanilla, candied orange, cream/milk, chocolate, even a hint of cherries. Warm boozy finish. Should go well with desserts.

500ml bottle, rare Kernel collab beer. Pours a deep reddy copper with a beige head. Aroma of red wine, oak, dried fruits. Taste prominently features the red wine barrels, oaky, dried fruits, leather, tangy vinous notes, semi sweet. Medium bodied. Relatively easy drinking for a "barleywine" under 8%.
Great beer, would never have guessed it was an Altbier, but to be fair it's not a style I'm at all familiar with.

33cl can from AbeerVinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark brown, towards purple, with fine cream foam. Aroma is toasted, caramel, but also a little roasted. Body and carbonation are average. Taste is moderately sweet. Final is average.

Bottle. Kernel advent box day 2. Deep red copper. Suds of lasting mucky beige. Not particularly a looker. Nose has loads of the red wine barrel coming across sweet juicy and lightly tangy. Some malt character behind. Taste is semi sweet and fruity with a red wine tang. Easy drinking and vinous. Juicy finish. It’s a lovely easy drinking bev but there’s no way I’d know this was supposed to be an Altbier. The red wine barrel dominates everything.
