RBSG Thansk to Ungstrup for this one! Large head of off white over a dark brown body. This doesn’t have the intense hoppy aroma of the regular IPA, being more malty in that respect. Moderately sweet with a lighter hops bitterness than the regular IPA as well. This hits my palate as more of a Strong Ale or possibly a Barleywine than an IIPA, but other than style classification issues, this is a good solid strong beer.

(Bottle 50 cl) Very dark ruby red colour, clear and pretty indeed. Very small head and almost no carbonation - almost English cask appearance. Huge sediment though. A slight indefinable and not completely pleasant nose - roasted somehow. Very malty flavours, roasted malt - light sweetish, soft and pleasant mouthfeel. An incredibly flavourful beer for it’s rather small body. 110705

Very dark color, small head. Quite simple malty and roasted malt aroma. Very simple taste, thin, with quite a lot of roasted malt and caramel. Not exceptional…

Clean dark amber color. Very nice aroma, with some malt, roasted malt and hop. The mouthfeel is quite dry, with roasted malt, malt and caramel, plus a touch of rye. Pretty good among the Brown Ales. Ends too dry and somehow minty.

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark, hazy amber with a small off-white head. Lovely malty base with notes of both nuts and caramel. But no real sweetness, on the contrary a dry, dry bitter hoppiness. Rather lovely. An extreme yeast sediment finishes this. 010605

(Bottle 50 cl) Amber golden, slightly hazy with a tiny, creamy head. Really lives up to it’s name, this is very bitter. But a fleeting bitterness that doesn’t linger long in the palate. Very refreshing. 210505

Black color. Very nice aroma, hoppy and earthy. Lovely taste! Malty, hoppy, sweet, bitter, aromatic, with a touch of spices and liquorice; chocolate, roasted malt. Excellent! Fresh.

A hazy very dark red beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is quite hoppy - subtle, but still with a sharpness from the hop acids. The flavor is lovely quite malty sweet, with some notes of caramel to start off - I just got the thought - is this an IIPA? But soon after strong notes of hops hit me - at first just subtle aroma hops, but then the bitterness strikes - and it strikes quite hard with lots of alfa acid. The bitterness totally dries out the mouth - while the alcohol warms the throat. To me this is a little too malty and not quite hoppy enough to be an Imperial IPA - so I’ll go with ChristianSA with the style description as Imperial Brown Ale.

Beautiful colour, perfect creamy head followed by a promising hoppy aroma. The taste is a balanced mix between a British and an American IPA, more hoppy character than the British style but a bit more moderate than many of the American IPA’s. Still more an American style IPA. Nice malty and nutty aroma with a hint of citrus. Long lovely finishes that make you want to go for another sip. Without doubt the best Norwegian beer money can by for the moment.

Black color. Crazy aroma: sweet, spices (cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom), lemon peel. Spicy, malty flavor; caramel, Fernet Branca… An odd mix!
