Black color. Very nice aroma, hoppy and earthy. Lovely taste! Malty, hoppy, sweet, bitter, aromatic, with a touch of spices and liquorice; chocolate, roasted malt. Excellent! Fresh.

Dark color; thin creamy head. Complete different aroma from the Cask version, amlty and lightly roasty, with a touch of vanilla and paperboard. The flavor is more aggressive (carbonation) and straight-forward: roasted malt, malt, some liquorice.

A hazy very dark red beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is quite hoppy - subtle, but still with a sharpness from the hop acids. The flavor is lovely quite malty sweet, with some notes of caramel to start off - I just got the thought - is this an IIPA? But soon after strong notes of hops hit me - at first just subtle aroma hops, but then the bitterness strikes - and it strikes quite hard with lots of alfa acid. The bitterness totally dries out the mouth - while the alcohol warms the throat. To me this is a little too malty and not quite hoppy enough to be an Imperial IPA - so I’ll go with ChristianSA with the style description as Imperial Brown Ale.

Beautiful colour, perfect creamy head followed by a promising hoppy aroma. The taste is a balanced mix between a British and an American IPA, more hoppy character than the British style but a bit more moderate than many of the American IPA’s. Still more an American style IPA. Nice malty and nutty aroma with a hint of citrus. Long lovely finishes that make you want to go for another sip. Without doubt the best Norwegian beer money can by for the moment.

Black color. Crazy aroma: sweet, spices (cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom), lemon peel. Spicy, malty flavor; caramel, Fernet Branca… An odd mix!

Cask at DBF2005. A tasty, nice roasted and surprisingly fresh porter. I have tried this from the bottle several times, but from cask this is much more fruity. Sweet malty aroma with a touch of coffee, chocolate and some liquorice. One of my favourite porters.

Thanks to Madsberg for this treat! Dense dark color with a good tan head. Roasted malt and caramel aromas easily rise to meet the nose from this one. Well balanced flavor fades into a long roasty finish that lingers with the coating of flavors left on the tongue. Very enjoyable Porter!

Beautiful copper color; thin creamy head. Very nice hoppy aroma, quite fruity, nutty, herbal, dark honey, resins. Excellent brew, malty, nutty, hoppy, still some sweetness. Very long finish, a lot of resins.

500ml Bottle. Re-rated after tasting quite a few bottles of this beer during the last years. I’m keeping the same point as first time rated, but modifying my comments. First time I used the term “in many ways extreme” and “surprisingly harmonic”. Compared with several famous American beers in the same category it is not extreme at all. It’s just a bloody well made Imperial IPA with 80 lovely IBU. The cascade and citrus aroma is exploding in your mouth in a very pleasant way. The balance between bitterness, malty sweetness and alcohol is a perfect miracle. When we know how many top beers this little Norwegian brewery are capable to make, I will not call it surprisingly harmonic anymore. This is just one of their best beers, and of course among some of the best Imperial IPA’s money can buy. If you are a hophead and accepting the hop level that grow breast and attacks your amalgam fillings in you’re teethes this is not the beer. This is a good beer.
