Description

Bottle at home. Aroma is peach, light malt, mild hops, citrus, soft sweetish fruits, fruit peel, hint of floral and yeast. Flavour is light sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Soft and restrained IPA, but pleasant enough.

Bottle at home. Aroma is malt, exotic mineola peel, spicy notes, sweetish fruits, yeast, mild notes of vegetables. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Not a refreshing Blond, more of a sweet sipper. Not a fan of the vegetable notes but I dig the use of mineola, they kind of cancel each other out rating-wise. Overall neither bad nor good.

6.1/10 — Appearance 6 Aroma 6 Flavor 6 Texture 6 Overall 6.5
From tap at Noordelijk Kerst- en Winterbierenfestival 2016. Aroma is fruity hops, soft dark malt, sweet, some pine, caramel and a slight touch of chocolate. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Very mild for a Black IPA, not roasted enough to be a fine example of the style.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is wheat, malt, citrus, orange peel, spicy yeast, herbal tea, lemongrass, coriander. Flavour is sweetish and lightly bitter. Body is almost medium. Not bad, but they went a little overboard with the spices.

6.4/10 — Appearance 8 Aroma 6 Flavor 6 Texture 6 Overall 6.5
From tap at Noordelijk Kerst- en Winterbierenfestival 2017. Aroma is lightly herbal and dank hops, mild fruity with citrus, and light pale malt. Flavour is medium bitter. Body is medium. Lacks the fruity juiciness of a proper NEIPA but has the haze and a little dankness, low expectations aside this is not a bad IPA, it's just a bit too mild for its own good.

Bottle from Drankenspeciaalzaak Jelle, Leeuwarden. Roasted and peaty aroma with liquorice, ash, burnt malt, and hints of vanilla and dark fruits. Flavour is medium sweet with an above moderate roasty bitter finish and a slight sourness. Body is medium, a bit light to carry the aroma. Nice Turfstout.

6.6/10 — Appearance 6 Aroma 7 Flavor 7 Texture 6 Overall 6.5
From bottle at 6e Noordelijk Lentebierenfestival, Leeuwarden. Soft fruity and lightly dank hops in the aroma with a smooth new england-ready flavour, including a properly low bitterness. Body is medium. Easy and friendly fruity fare. Not a great NEIPA, a bit mediocre and restrained for the style, but a fine soft IPA.

From tap at 9e Noordelijk Kerst- en Winterbieren Festival, Hoogeveen. Aroma is roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate and coffee, a touch of dark fruits. Light Porter, bit overcarbonated. Moderate sweet. Okay-ish, the roast works out but the carbonation is annoying.

3.4/10 — Appearance 4 Aroma 2 Flavor 4 Texture 4 Overall 3.5
From tap at 9e Noordelijk Kerst- en Winterbieren Festival, Hoogeveen. Heavily medicinal, big sticky molasses, dropshot, alcohol, overripe fruits, sweet malt, syrup. Heavy and boozy, massive sweetness. Clumsy Eisbock, harsh flavours, freakish nonsense that turns this beer style into a parody.
