Description
Preparations for Leidsch Bier started in 2003. Before that, owner / brewer JW Fukkink had been active as an amateur beer brewer since 2000. The official start was a fact with the introduction of Leidsch Blond in April 2004. With the move to own business premises (mid 2010) and obtaining the brew / excise permit (May 2011), there was finally a real beer brewery in Leiden again.

33cl Bottle from Speciaalbierwinkel Bodegraven. Black colour, huge foamy beige head. Aroma of tar, liquorice, caramel, hard-roasted malts, coffee, hint of berries, lots of booze, wood. Flavour is medium-sweet, malty, hard-roasted malts, tar, coffee, oak, dry woody notes, chocolate, firm bitter finish with caramel, sticky. Full-bodied, way over-carbonated, which makes it hard to drink, but very very tasty.

Clear red-brown colour. The aroma and taste have stewed vegetables and some strange herbal, medicinal notes too. The finish has some Bakewell tart. Confusing.

Bottle from my first Secret European Santa box, many thanks. Dark orange color with medium white head. Strong hoppy aroma with soapy notes. Taste, solid malty base, followed by hoppy kick with oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, grapefruit zest, pines. Long hoppy bitter finish. Good.

Bottled, BB Jan 2014, large sample. Cloudy yellow color (interesting to see orange and amber descriptions, this one is obviously not as dark) with a huge frothy white head. Aroma of soft noble hops, slight grassy, bit spicy, grainy of oats and wheat. Medium bitter in taste. Quite refreshing. A bit too much carbonation, but its not that annoying (only for pouring).
