Description
Our aim is to reveal the quality potential of the traditional orchards that we foster in Devon, while cultivating, nurturing and encouraging them to thrive.
We work with farmers to help breathe life back into traditional orchards on their farms; to prevent further decline and the extinction of important local apple varieties.
In most cases the apples in these orchards were previously left to rot on the ground year after year, yet they include incredible cider varieties as well as unusual local dessert and cooking varieties. Many of these varieties are rare or on the verge of extinction but make beautiful cider.
The cidery itself is located in an old stable yard in the village of Huxham near Exeter. With capacity for 9000 bottles per year, this is a small but focussed operation. There aren’t any bells and whistles in sight, just outstanding cider and two people, whole heartedly devoted to their produce.

750ml wired cork bottle from Brew Cavern. 2017 Vintage. Opened with a loud pop. Sparkling, golden colour, short-lived fizzy white foam head and aroma of tangy apple, alittle core and skin, with light earthy funk. Taste is fruity, apple, fleshy, tart, woody hint, light funk, citric, some white wine and champagne notes. Slick & spiky mouthfeel, medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, dry tart acidic finish. Nicely drinkable.

9/6/2019. Bottle, sample, courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed! Pours hazy golden orange with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of semi-sweet apples, baked apples, light caramel and brown sugar. Medium sweetness, light to moderate tartness. Medium body, slight oily texture, average to soft carbonation. Bittersweet with a little tartness to finish. Nicely done, very natural, liked this.

750ml wire corked bottle, as Huxham Blend Vintage 2017, from Hop Burns & Black. Orange gold colour, white foamy head that dissipates away to a thin layer, and aroma of keeved apple, alittle caramel. Taste is sweet, juicy, apple, tangy, tart with some green apple, apple core, caramel, and mellow, citric. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi-sweet finish. Nicely drinkable, fairly sweet but well balanced.

75cl bottle from Scrattings. Hexham blend 2017. Pours a generally clear gold with a faint mist. Crisp keeved apple fruit on the nose, some pips. Taste bears a clean, deep apple fruit character, clear fleshy fruit flavours with a gentle tannic fuzz. Some pips and bitter core emerging. Excellent clarity of flavour, just enough natural 'petillant' carbonation. Very good, and reassuring to see another English cider maker going down this route.
