Description
Saimaa Brewing Company on yksi Suomen vanhimmista yhä toiminnassa olevista pienpanimoista. Juuremme ulottuvat vuoteen 1995, jolloin ravintoloitsija Pertti Oksa aloitti oluenpanon Mikkelissä 200 litran ravintolapanimossa.

Bottled (from Alko Prisma, Vaasa). Slightly hazy orangeish golden colour with a small white creamy head that lasts for a while. Aroma is fruity, floral and quite bready and caramel malty notes. Flavour is very similar in most ways. A bit thin, but otherwise refreshing. positively surprising beer from Saimaa for once.

Boks 0,5l fra Kilpishalli. Delt med Rune under rateseanse i H9 1 Okt 13. Gyldenbrun. Lavt skum som dalte raskt. Litt lacing. Overraskende bra aroma. Litt frukt. Lite kullsyre. God fersken/plommesmak. Avslutter svakt syrlig. Bra boksøl!

330ml bottle from Alko
Pours clear yellow with a small white head. Aroma of glue, malts, alcohol, fruits, earthy notes and spices. Taste is malty, slightly fruity and hoppy with some earthy notes, spices and glue. Finish is smooth, slightly bitter and musty with some notes of alcohol and glue. Quite unbalanced and messy, feels thin and hoppiness is quite low for the style.

Smell of hops, sugar. Cloudy amber colour, yellow head. Aroma of hops, alcohol, herbs, faints of licorice. Medium sweet, medium carbon. Could benefit from more bitterness or sweetness.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE 10/14, from Alko, 20140205) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had soap, fruitiness and grain. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, herbalness, sweetness, malts and intense bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and intensely bitter. Too unbalanced brew to be a good one.

33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 10/2014
Quite pale appearance for a DIPA. Aroma is messy with berries, some grapefruit, caramel, yeasty and woody tones. Flavour has berries, some grapefruit, grassy tones and a raw yeasty feeling with some bun dough. Also some pineapple juice. Somewhat bitter finish. Too messy.

A hazy, sliglty orange beer with a weak and blond head. The nose is fruitfull, light malts, some riped fruits, melon and glue. Taste of fructose and sweetness, some fruits, herbal/piney and long lasting hops. Medium bitterness dries the mouth but the taste isn’t totally dry. Medium+ bodied, low carbonation, nice and slippery to drink. This DIPA dosn’t totally convinced me, should be more fresh and not totally pure. Nice bitterness, anyway.

A golden colour, a head is quite big, dense and blond. The nose of strong malts, slightly aromatic, sweetness and some grass. Taste is malty, some fruits. Simple taste but that’s not bothering, because of nice hoppyness as grassy/slightly herbal gives the medium bitterness that is balancing the sweetness. Smooth and pleasant to drink with a medium body. Good beer without mistakes and with some aromatic nuancees.

A slightly brown, dark yellow beer with a blond, almost medium head that is almost totally disappered. The nose is rich of malts, strong riped fruits, nice. Taste is rich, lots of dried fruits, some raisins, hops dried the taste together with hint of alcohol. Fruitness supports nicely the stong sweetness. Almost full bodied, mild carbonation, smooth. A positive surprise, rich, smooth and dryed fruity beer.
