650 ml swingtop bottle, bought in France. Golden colour, large head, leaves a nice lacing. Nice fruity sweet aroma, notes of grass too, hints of spices. Flavour is your average pale lager with some alcoholic sweet notes added. I might have guessed that the ABV was even higher than its 6.0%. I have definitely had better beers, but I’ve had worse too! Not a beer to search out, but the empty bottle will be useful for your homebrew.

Draught in Nice, France. A standard pils. There’s not much more to say. Drinkable, but does not stand out in any way.

25cl bottle from Carrefour. The label said that this was specially brewed for this Christmas. Russet in colour with thick beige head. Toffee and herby hop aroma. Smooth in mouth with tingly hoppy finish and a bit more toffee. Hop on the end is peppery and pretty good

Bottle: Copper coloured; thin but lasting head; smoky, brandy-like nose, traces of caramel and burnt malts; initial sweet, (smoked-) malty taste; sweetish flavour; short sweet finish with traces of charcoal and some bitterness coming really very late. Too sweet and kind of "artificial"..................

Pour is a pale brown with a white head. Aroma is hard to find. Nothing really going on there...next. Flavor is pretty much the same. There are some malts used but that is about it. Bland and boring.

Test vom 10.9.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,10,11,7,10,10 - 9,50

(bottle) Clear and pale copper colour with a medium foamy slightly off-white head. Sweet malty nose with a touch of whisky smokiness (iodine, leather). Sweet malty flavour, medium body, almost lively carbonation. Starts with smoky malty taste and soft sweetness that becomes stronger towards the finish but is restrained a bit by the sharp carbonation. I like it.

Full gold colour. Rich head holds reasonably well for a pale lager, and leaves lace on the glass. This is a definite plus for a style that usually doesn’t do this. The aroma is grassy, grainy-malty with an alcoholic undertone. The alcohol comes through even more in the flavour, battling the light pale malts for control of the palate. What you ultimately have a light but fairly clean pale lager ruined by a superfluous alcohol taste. It doesn’t meld with the other elements and is inappropriate for the style. 6% is too strong for a regular beer, but quite frankly it doesn’t cut it at all if what you want is the raunch of a malt liquor. There is too much graininess for this to work as a mocne-style. Sitting in between the three styles, it is the best of none and the worst of all. (Same with Singha, which is also a 6% pale lager. The concept simply doesn’t work).

(Bottle 75 cl) Fully golden, rather pretty beer with a decent, tall head. Very soft, slightly sweet without much bitterness. Nice alright, and a typical Alsatian lager.
