Nice colour...straw in hue with a frothy white head. Smells of yeast, pepper and coriander seed. The taste is good...strong initially and still tastes phenominal. Definate drying on the palate, but very nice in the long-run. Somewhat reminiscent of a saison, but the white characteristics show through nicely. One of the better whites I've had! I had this from the 33 cL bottle purchased at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.

Absolutely huge white yellowish head, really lacey. Peachy-orange beer, slight haze. nose of coriander, pale malt, summergrain. Taste: spicey again, but not coriander, rather peppery. grapefruit. Grain impression again retronasal. Very dry. Medium-bodied. Spicey-citrus aftertaste. Not too perfumed. And citrus-hops at the very end. Very nice. But impossible to say WHY. Maybe a sign of what beer ought to be: well-made, but unpretentious.

What an interesting and uniqe beer. Pours red-brown but rather cloudy with sediment. Full creamy head. Aroma was a bit of a let down with some chocolate but also green olives notes. The flavor was wonderful: chocolate, some roast, light indistinct fruitiness, and an absolute velvety texture. Easy finish. This is 9%?!

Black with light brown head. Faint aroma - some dark chocolate. Huge bitterness - not overly roasty but a sweet candy malt overlapped by chunky high alpha bitterness. I admire its assertiveness but I'm not sure I'd want another one.

Jet-black beer; brown-grey thick head, stable. Nose of urine, black malts, dark fruit, liquorice, chalk. Bitter chocolate, ink, mushrooms in the taste; palate of sweet liquorice, balanced by both dark roasted malts & hops. Warming up, the balance is lost and the liquorice overwhelms. Thick, chewy mouthfeel with a soupy, sweet aftertaste. I like a good stout as much as the next one. I think the best are made in the UK and the USA. Much as I appreciate Ellezelloise, I think they are on safer grounds with the Quintine.

Cloudy light brown color, small but lasting head. Alcoholic, barley aroma. Very strong malty taste, pretty alcoholic, caramelly. Decent Christmas brew.

Lemony sour aromas and spices (coriander, pepper). Big big head, blonde - floating yeast. Sweet flowers - a lot of aromahops. Sweet malt base. Light body. Shuts down with a peppery finish.

Rerate from a bottle the same age as my old rating:
Dark chestnut, cognac feelings. Soy, licorice roast, a hint lactic acic, wood. Bottle did not hold the carbonatin well, so smooth, somewhat flat, praline chocolates, licorice root, warm spices, sherry notes, all edges smooth, quite pleasant for the age.
old rating: 8 8 7 8 8 Lactic sorness next to toffee and burned fruiyness. Very black, short creamy head, some yeast residue. Burned flavors, also some yeast and fruits. Body is a bit weaker than expected, slightly oily mouthfeel. Long coffeeground aftertaste.

Saison Voisin used to be a legend amongst first-wave beerrevivalists. It went away. Now it is here again, licensed by its former brewer. But is it the real thing? Colour: light-amber. Amber-ish, thick , irregular head, not stable. nose: "fresh farmland odours" - something citrussey, too. Some ironoxide. Taste gives some iron in the head. Much hops in the taste. No sweetness, very little malt. Some cardboard. Light mouthfeel, no new aftertaste. It is refreshing indeed. It is neither sweet, neither strong. All good for a saison, but it isn't the real thing.
