Description

Dark-golden colour. Thick white head, stable...? YES! Iron in head! Nose: hops, cocos, biscuits, pale malts. Taste is VERY dry; some hops, sugar, honey-ish tinge. Ironoxide; yeast gives a more creamy taste. Mouthfeel: bone-dry. Some alcohol, nice carbonation, feel it, not fizzy. Quite clean palate, but some clying. yeast changes mouthfeel to more creamy MF. Hope the ironoxide is there from the brewing liquor - not for head-stabilization.

This has moderate carbonation, but no head at all. The aroma is of dark roast coffee and, I believe, a tiny bit of chocolate. The flavor is very roasty, almost to the point where I would call it smokey, and the coffee from the aroma comes back in full force. This is a tasty stout, but it falls short in a few places: 1. the price ($5.50 for a 11.2 oz. bottle is a bit steap for a beer unless I think it is great, so I need to remove a point or two from the overall impression to reflect this) 2. it is a bit thin bodied and lacks the complexity of flavor that I've come to expect from imperial stouts. The alcohol is well masked, making it very drinkable, but I don't think this lives up to the hype.

Bottled, 2000 version sampled in december 2002. Deep reddish amber with creamy head. Clean and sweet with notes of plums and caramel. Malty with drier, lightly spicy bitterish finish

Very much like the Vervifontaine Rousse. Sweet amber nose. Bit malts in the taste, together with the fruity amber. Alcohol moderately present. I like this one more than the Hercule Stout.

Clean light amber color, generous head, thick. Very nice hop aroma (old hop) and malt. Dry mouth, good malt, bold hop character, preluding to a strong and pretty aromatic final.
Much better body character than a lot of stronger brews.

Perfect dark appearance, with creamy longlasting head. Roasted malts in the aroma. Sweet stouty, roasted malts. But also some Belgian notes, the soft chocolate malts reminded me a bit of the Chimay Blue, but the roasted malts are the most abundant.

Black color; the usual Belgian generous head; a layer of foam is persistent. Very nice aroma of chocolate malts, mature. Good mouthfeel, not too thick but smooth enough; it has a good chocolate malt flavor, with hints of roasted malt and also some liquorice given by the age, with some Belgian character too. Correct bitterness. Balanced and interesting.

The aroma has some caramel and chocolate, and an additional rum touch. Medium round body, good caramel and chocolate flavour, less strong and complex than expected, and not much bitter.

Dark colour; brown, generous, creamy head. Delicate nose, of malt, roasted malt, yeast, caramel.
Powerful brew, perfect balance of elements: sweetness and bitterness; smoothness and dryness; roasted malt and hop. Some sweet liquorice as well. Very strong, but the alcohol is not overwhelming. Strong and long palate (hop, liquorice, malt).
A giant one, an almost perfect Imperial Stout (or whatever).
A must try with some years of aging (this one, I guess, was 2ys old).
