2003 Batch:
Amber in colour with a large tan head of about four centimetres in height. Ruby highlights show when held up to the light, pretty nice! Malty aroma with some spices (nutmeg) thrown in the mix. Medium-bodied; Spicey flavour with malty characteristics and a mouthful that coats the inside of the mouth. A decent beer, pretty spot-on for the style, better than some others but not a great beer by any means. I bought a six pack of twelve ounce bottles at Top's in Rochester, New York.

Like the other Pete''s seasonals, this beer is really nothing special. Pours a dark amber color with a thin beige head. Raspberry, malt and cinnamon in the aroma but in small quantity. Flacor is light raspberry and spice, but again nothing asserts itself. I can take it or leave it.

2002 update: Amber color, small head. Rich toffeeish aroma and round toffeeish malt sweetness. Dry somewhat sharp and acidic finish. Strangely light mouthfeel and no lingering maltiness. New for 2001: Malty with hints at nutty caramel and toffee. Not as rich as some but overall pretty good.------2000: I'm with Gusler - one of Pete's best offerings. Malty sweet but medium bodied (not heavy or cloying), and clean. Straightforward, yes, but quite enjoyable. Nice dark amber color.

Got this as part of a sampler pack. I am glad I didn't get 6ers of all of these because for the most part they have been barely above average (I do like the original). This was no exception. Copper colored (not very red at all actually) with a thin head. Mild malty nose. Somewhat bland flavor but easy to drink and mildly sweet throughout. So-so.

Nowhere near as good as the Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, but not bad either. Clear gold color and minimal malty aroma. Rather thin with a clean aftertaste. Kind of underwhelming.
