Description
The Cromarty Brewing Co is a family run business consisting of Craig, Chap and Jenni Middleton. Craig, our fanatical founding brewer studied the science of brewing at Heriot Watt University and the art of beer making in the student accommodation and flat basements. After finishing the course he went on to do some work in various breweries to gain valuable experience. It was during this time that he decided he wanted to get his own beers to market.

In the spring of 2011 construction of the brewery started on the shed works and some awesome stainless steel was ordered from Bavarian Brewery Technologies. Hectic times and long hours later led to the first of the casks rolling out on the 19th December 2011.

Cask @ No.27 Inverness
Very dark brown to black...lots of ruby light through...creamy off white head
Aroma - light roast filter coffee..soft roasted malt..dark caramel malts...no hops
Taste - soft roast coffee...mellow roasted malts..dark caramel malts...hint of Cadbury’s fudge....light bitter hops in background...overall flavour mellow and rather light
Palate - very soft carb...thin to medium body...smooth and quite silky. Finish of smooth coffee and soft roast..clean finish
Overall - Seems to be more like a porter to me.....bit on the safe side - more body and flavour would improve this...coffee is well done here..soft easy drinking porter

Cask @ Bandstand Bar, Nairn 050612
This is improved considerably from when I first had it...in fact is has really changed but for the better - it’s a really good golden ale, more balanced, lots of nice fruity malts - I preferred it to the Avalanche

Cask @ Bandstand Bar, Nairn 6/3/7/4/14 241211
Amber, clear, frothy white head dissipated to thin layer, some lacing.
Aroma - Light grassy hops, light malts, some minerals - very light aroma
Taste - some grassy bit spicy hops, light caramel malts - not much flavour intially but builds up like a ’wave’ to the finish
Palate - soft carb, thin body. Finish - the flavour reaches it’s intensity here - spicy hops, citrus hops - grapefruit and grassy - quite dry - lingering hops with some minerals and a bit of cereal. Good for 4.1%.
Overall - This is a reasonably good debut beer - ..I wonder what is in store with higher abv beers, darker beers, stouts etc.......I think there is better coming in the future........one to watch
