Description
It all started with a humble homebrew kit and the drive to make better beer. Tired of the same bland and dated choices everywhere, Air Force friends Eric Wallace and Dick Doore set out to make the kind of beer that excited them; beer they wanted to drink. A hobby quickly became an obsession and it wasn't long before Left Hand Brewing opened for business on January 22, 1994. Left Hand has steadily increased its production, making the Brewers Association’s Top 50 Craft Brewers list in 2012.

Bottled 08 Sep 06. Opaque black, not much head. Toasted, cold coffee nose. Toasted, roasted, light. Roasted atfertaste too. Not much to say about.

750 ml cork & cage bottle. 2006 bottle conditioned. Pours fairly clear with an orange-amber color under a tall, sticky, off-white head. Fruity aroma with caramel malt. The hops add citrus to the fruity mix. Some spiciness, almost like a gingerbread cookie. Full bodied delivery of carmel sweetness with just enough underlying bitterness to keep this from becoming cloying. But make no mistake, this is a show of big malts.

On the whole a somewhat boring amber/pale ale. Poured an appealing red-amber, with a good two finger head. Aroma focused toward the malt end, with notes of butterscotch and caramel. Flavor similar, but some spicy flavoring hops are brought out. Although indistinct, they serve the purpose to provide counterpoint to the caramelized malts. Finish just barely bitter, again revealing the malt leaning tendencies of this one. Despite that, the malts are not especially featured, and the beer approaches blandness, definitely boringness.

Clear copper body with thin white head that diminishes to next-to-nothing. Malty nose of grain and canned corn with slightly metallic aroma. Flavor is slightly sweet, but mostly vegetable like with a slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Medium body with lively carbonation. Disappointing.

Fairly clear medium yellow with a quickly falling white head. Lemony hop aroma with a touch of sourness. Light sweetness that quickly develops a nice smooth dryness that goes into the finish. Not great but drinkable.

On my first wiff of the aroma i detected some hoppiness which faded into a more normal, molasses and coffee porter nose. It is transparent dark brown with a tiny tan head, Flavor favors coffee with chocolate hints and a tiny hop finish.

bottle - Pours light amber with a good malty aroma and a trace of citrus. There’s some good hops flavor and mild malt, but overall just not enough flavor in general. This ale was surprisingly watery. It’s okay, but left me wanting something stronger.
