Apparently contains naked oats, (Australian) Bush Tomatoes, Muntries (a native berry that’s a bit like a spicy apple) and is aged in an old Grappa barrel. Not obviously an English Strong Ale. Not that I have a better filing suggestion. Bottle. Clear gold - a thick coat of sediment remains adhered to the bottle - with a white head that’s soon less than a coat. Aroma of funky cider and white grape focaccia, but I guess there’s some toasty malt there too. Full bodied but not heavy, sweet with straightforward but quality pale malt underpinning the apple and grape notes. Not much if any bitterness, but a musty astringency balances the sweetness. Some spices - mace, other Chinese "medicine"- like things I can’t place. There’s an odd pulpy woodiness to it too. There’s a "things that lived in the barrel but don’t mean to intrude" feel that’s really nice now. I wonder whether it will stay that way or take over. Interesting, good, highly original.

Bottle. Deep clear brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, berry chai, hazelnuts, some bread. The berries and their astringency and spice come through more strongly in the taste, which is a bit tannic over bread, caramel and chocolate. And it makes for a dry and almost harsh finish which is shame given the promise of the first whiff. Still, pretty good and quite interesting.

[2/16] Copper with a modest pale beige head. Aroma of herbal lemon, kumquats, (finger?) lime, pine needles, bread crusts. Oily, lowish carbonation. Bittersweet with toast, caramel, lower register citrus - the more zesty things get a bit lost. Strong bitterness with pine and herbal notes accompanying baked citrus. No overt alcohol but drinks at least its weight. Interesting and good - definitely from the highly hopped to keep the malt side of things in check end of the style. [3.6]Can, ooh look, fingerlime is on the label - but I wouldn’t have picked it this time. No sharp edges on this one - perhaps a piecing top note would lift without damage? Anyway I like it even if it’s a bit compressed.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas. Hazy yellow. Aroma of lacto, citrus, coriander, saltwater. Tart flavor, with lacto, salt, spiciness, citrus, and a faint peppery hint in the finish. Light to medium-bodied. Nice and refreshing.

Clear reddish beer with a thick, lovely, foamy head. Clouded up a touch as it settled. Flavour really shows the mix of hops. It’s bittersweet and there’s an unspecific mix of citrusy, tropical fruit smells. The flavour is much the same. A complex hoppy mix, the bitter fruit is a very strong taste but it doesn’t linger giving the beer quite a light feel. There’s a resinous quality to it as well and it’s a touch of this along with the hops which dominate the aftertaste. Really nice beer but not one I’d guzzle.

Draught at Birrivico, Como, batch 16, k, bb Jan 2016
Hazy golden color, frothy head. The aroma is just too light, but it has a delicate flavor of pale malts, balanced bitterness, a bit resiny, very light fruity presence too, refreshing.
Clean and elegant Pale Ale.

(Bottle) Hazy amber with nice tan head. Great aroma - pine with notes of grapefruit and caramel. Light bodied with good carbonation. Taste is hop driven with plenty of tasty bitterness in the finish. There’s some pleasant malt providing balance in the mid-palate and some grapefruit at the start. Good IPA.

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como; Batch L40 bb 7-2016
Hazy Amber color, small head. Dry but based on caramel character, hence a bit old style; strong bitterness but mostly only the resiny qualities of the hop appear, and orange peel, not other fruits.
Not very fresh probably, maybe it suffered a bit, and as said it’s an old style IPA; but not too bad.
