Location: Cask at Birreria, 8/3/12

Aroma: The nose is slightly hoppy, with caramel malts, wheat, and some light fruit
Appearance: This one pours a hazy, dark orange color, with a fizzy white
Flavor: Taste is lightly sweet from the malts/wheat, with a medium hop bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has a soft carbonation, and typical cask-type feel
Overall Impression: Overall, I found this one to be a solid beer, and I enjoyed drinking it. Of course I'd probably have enjoyed it more if Birreria wasn't so over-priced, but that's just me complaining...

A dark copper brown ale with a thin big bubbled brown head. In aroma, a nice oily nutty malt with coffee liqueur. In mouth, a smooth nutty malt with light herbal notes, coffee points, very good. On tap at Birreria, Dec. 27 2011.

On cask at the brewpub. Pours with a clear chestnut brown hue with low head retention. Aromas are woody, nutty, umami, earthy and spicy with light smoke. Quite a bit of richness to this beer. Flavors are earthy, nutty, spicy, meaty, chestnuts. Plenty of umami, and light smoke. Prickly carbonation with a dry finish. Tasty!

Cask. My least favorite of the three house beers currently on. Pours a bit murky with a orange hue and a frothy off-white head. Aromas are of orange, dark fruits, fig, spicy, grainy and a bit estery. Flavors are herbaceous, peppery, phenol, dark fruits and figs. Light carbonation, somewhat dry. Subtle.

Location: Cask at The Birreria at Eataly, 9/4/11

Aroma: The nose has components of pepper, orange, wheat, spice, and just a hint of honey
Appearance: It pours a golden-orange color with a lasting white head atop it
Flavor: Tastes wheaty, with a touch of pepper/spice, its mildly sweet, with a touch of citrus
Palate: The body is light, with a soft carbonation, and a finish that lingers on the mouth for a while
Overall Impression: This was some solid stuff. I thought the peppercorns were a very interesting addition to a Wit that come out more in the nose then in the flavor. It did make the beer a little more interesting then a typical Belgian White. I generally enjoy cask offerings, but have mixed feelings about how the cask treatment worked here. Part of me thinks it helped the beer, and part of me thinks it hurt the beer. I'd like to see a draft version for comparison sake (but I don't think I'd pay another $10 bucks to try the draft version!)

Location: Cask at The Birreria at Eataly, 9/4/11

Aroma: The aroma had some hops and spice, along with a bit of earthy
Appearance: This one poured a copper color with some decent lace on the glass
Flavor: The taste was fairly similar to the nose, lightly sweet, medium bitter
Palate: The body is light (toward the medium side), with an average carbonation, and a decent mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Overall, this was a solid American Pale Ale with a bit of a twist from the thyme. I thought it was some pretty decent stuff that worked pretty well for what it was trying to do, but didn't blow me away.
