Description
Artzner craft beer has a very long history. It dates back over two centuries. In 1882 to be exact, Pierre Hoeffel founded brewery Perle in Schiltigheim. In 1919: Charles Kleinknecht, brewing engineer, took over the brewery and in 1930, a new brewery was built. Just before the Second World War, production reached 300,000 hectoliters. In 1971, the brewery was closed and the buildings were demolished in the 1980s.
In 2009, Christian Artzner, great-great-grandson of the founder, paid his greatest tribute to this beer by bringing it back to life. In 2015, the Perle brewery officially opened in Strasbourg, at the Plaine des Bouchers, with a brand new production facility and beers "made in Alsace"

Bouteille (merci, Quack-Duck!): Golden, hazy, big - slowly collapsing - fluffy off-white head; fresh herbal hppy nose with some spices underneath, pale malt detectable, too; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied, soft; lingering - but thinnish - bitter-sweet finish with very delicate traces of spices. Refreshing.....

Mondiale 2010. Poured a murky golden body with particles all around it. White head. A complex fruity nose, bananas I guess. Heavy malty taste but not all that overbearing, banana again, black pepper and that"s all I can remember from tonight, lost the notes when my mobile phone slipped to the floor and the battery fell out, erasing the unsaved message. All in all, I liked it at first, then I didn’t, and in the end it grew on me again.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, pale golden colour with a big and loose frothy white head. Moderately sweet and yeasty wheat-malty aroma with spicy notes of coriander and an ethereally touch. Slightly bitter flavour, light bodied with a lively, even a bit fizzy carbonation. Slim and yeasty wheat-character with rather restrained fruity notes but a strong spicy touch, especially towards the slightly bitter-tart finish. Not particularly convincing. 21.II.11

(bottle, 33cl, as Artzner Perle, with thanks to Quack-Duck) Clear, golden colour with a short foamy white head. Sweet and butter, slightly bready malty aroma with a tinge of hops in the background. Mildly sweet and bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a calm and well-matured carbonation. Buttery malty taste, almost with Bohemian character; medium-dry buttery malty and slightly herbal and woody hoppy finish with a good length. Superb and a nice surprise. 20.X.10

Foggy yellow-beige, nice white head with a decent density. Aroma is hops, mint, soft pine leaves. Taste is very witbier-like, with lots of hops and then some scented notes on the end that are very Christmas-y like. This is a decent brew, soft and subtle, in the league of a Hoegaarden Wit or similar vein.

Has an okay head and a medium gold body. Aroma is dry and sour hops, slight grains. Taste is smooth and dry, a few bread notes and a soft hoppy finish. Not bad for a pils.
