Quick rate. Rating as beer cocktail / soft drink. Smell-weak rhubarb, weak candy. Foam- thin, sugar, sweetness, weak rhubarb, weak chemical tones. Head is small, and white in color. Appearance - brewer bottle cap, simple label.Clear orange-brown-ish color, light, few carbonation bubbles. From - goblet? Taste - weak bitter tones, weak rhubarb, weak sugar. Odd, feels bit watery and unbalanced. Not the worst of its type, but nothing to keep looking for.

Appearance: Cloudy deep gold to lpale amber. Decent off-white head. Aroma and taste: Grain, pleasant fruity yeast, butterscotch, grass, apple seeds. Light sweet and bitter. Mouth feel: Medium body, appropriate carbonation. Overall: OK.

Rating this as a soft drink. Smell- sweak to medium, sugar, faint lime, faint acidic tones, bit of chemical weak honey. Foam-thin, sweet, sugary, weak lime, the head seems white. Appearance- - I like bottle caps, they have several designs for same beers. Clear yellow amber in color. From - bottle Taste - a bit dry, with some acidic tones. Not as horribly sweet as some other similar drinks. Some faint bitter after tones. Drinkable if you like this kind of stuff. Better than many beer cocktails I had.

OK, let’s get the translation out of the way first. Ulmanlaiku literally means “the time of Ulmanis”, and refers to Karlis Ulmanis prime minister / president from 1934 to 1940. However, the term is also used generally to refer to the whole of Latvia’s first period of independence (1918-40). Anyway, can bought from local Polish shop and drank at home. Pours a dark brown with a transient beige head. Aroma is slightly fishy, with bread crusts too. In the mouth it is sweet and refreshing with a creamy texture. Flavour has molasses, raisins, malts and a touch of honey. Finish is pretty sweet too. This is one of the best kvasses I’ve ever had – just don’t expect it to taste like beer !
