Draft at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown color with a thin brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of rich chocolate, roasted malts and a lactose twang. The taste is roasted malts, lactose, chocolate, faint hops. Medium bodied, creamy, well balanced. Easily my favorite beer of the day.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy red-brown color with a thin white head. Good head retention. Aroma of herbal notes, rye, citrus. The taste is rye, spice and something I placed as berries, as I’m just reading about the cabernet barrels now, I suppose that’s what that was. Medium bodied.

32 ounce growler from the brewpub. Pours a clear dark brown color with a thin frothy brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts and herbal and pine hops. The taste is intense pine hops, resin, herbal notes as well, lots of chocolate and a bitter roast finish. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness, faintly boozy and much more drinkable that it should be for the ABV. Nicely done.
