Cask at Picture House, Stafford – but have drunk it many times elsewhere before. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with minimal cream head but good lacing. The aroma speaks of burnt toast and molasses to me. In the mouth it’s briefly creamy before sweet fruits and liquorice come through to swamp it. Later still there are hints of chocolate. Finish is slightly bitter. It’s nice enough, but seems to lack any defining “portery” characteristic.
