Description
Waterloo Beer is brewed with care in the Mont-Saint-Jean farm, the famous 'English Hospital' of the Battle of Waterloo. More than ever, this high-quality beer is a symbol of authenticity, craftsmanship and courage. In 1815, during the famous conflict, the troops were supplied with high-fermented beer that gave them strength and courage to face each other. Two centuries later, Anthony Martin is proud to revisit this moment in history by reviving the local beer quality, prepared strictly according to the original recipe: Waterloo – beer of bravery!

(Draught at Delirium Tap Bar, Brussels, 18 Oct 2015) Hazy yellow colour with lasting, white head. Malty nose with notes of grain, wheat, hay and a touch of citrus. Malty taste with cereal, wheat, bread, some hay, bread spices and a low bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well made witbier. Quite nice.

Draught at Gollem. Very thick and frothy, snow white, creamily lacing, stable, dense head, hazy peachy golden blonde colour. Aroma of red apple, some banana, biscuit, mandarin, coriander seed, canned apricot, honey, iron. Very softly fruity onset, accents of apple and banana, creamy body, honeyish malt sweetness with metallic hint, soft carbo, mild grassy hop bitterishness in the end along with soapy coriander but the banana ester and honeyish malt sweetness keep prevailing. I don’t see the point in this, the two original Waterloo beers are boring enough as they are and this is just another very cliché Belgian blonde intended for the big masses without any distinguishing feature, but then it is John Martin, of course - the company bringing the most boring or sometimes even the most disgusting beers to the Belgian consumer. Never liked them.

Bottle (from SIP, Tallinn). Pours dark golden with whiteish head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, fresh fruits, esthers, apricot, dryness. Flavor is sweet and bitter, fresh fruits, apricot. Finish is sweet and dry bitter. Carbonation is high. Overall: solid macro Belgian golden strong paleish, but carbonation is way too much for me.
