Can from Lupe Pintos. Murky golden body with a thin white head. Low carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of green banana, orange and apricot. Flavour of lemon and juicy grapefruit. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. It tastes brighter and sharper than the aroma suggests.

440ml can. Pours jet black with a large head. Aroma is milk chocolate, roast and vanilla. Taste has yeasty milk chocolate throughout with roast and vanilla on the finish.

Can thanks to Ashton McCobb. Pours black with a thin beige head. Aromas of dark chocolate, nougat, hazelnut. Taste adds peanut and honeycomb, more dark chocolate. Rich finish.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - mat black and a foamy beige head. Nose - dark chocolate, bitter orange and a hint of raisin. Taste - vanilla and sweet chocolate. Still some dried fruit lurking. Palate - medium bodied, creamy middle and some decent bitterness on the finish. Overall - decent example of a pastry Stout.

On cask. Appearance - deep amber to autumnal red. Nice. Creamy white head. Nose - red fruit and orange. A bit earthy. Taste - digestive biscuits, redcurrant and burnt orange. Burnt toffee and resin at the very back. Palate - medium bodied, roasty through middle and finish. Overall - good to see a red beer, and a good example.

Keg at the Cock Tavern - Hackney. Pours clear, rich brown with a creamy, tan head. Light-medium sweet flavour with rounded citrusy hops, subtle dark malts, restrained roast, a nip of raisin and pine. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Balanced, rounded finish, notes of dark malts and citrus peel, mellow floral accents.
