Description
Dois Corvos is an independent, family-owned brewery in Lisbon, Portugal. We make distinctive craft beers that are distributed throughout Portugal and beyond. Our brewery has a Tap Room in the Marvila neighborhood of Lisbon where all our beers are served fresh from the tap.
Dois Corvos is known for the wide-range of beers in its portfolio — everything from dependable session beers and IPA's to big barrel aged stouts, experimental ales and mixed fermentations.

Our Brief History
Susana Cascais and Scott Steffens founded the company in late 2013 during the dark days of the Portuguese economic recession back when beer variety in Lisbon was non-existent. In 2014 brewing equipment was acquired and the brewery space was built out in Marvila, at that time a long-neglected industrial neighborhood. In 2015 the first beers were brewed and launched to the market and by the end of 2015 the Tap Room was opened, the first of its kind in Portugal.

A passion for brewing and a quest for making the best beers possible led to the production of dozens of styles. Hundreds of brews later, the mission remains intact - commitment to making honest and genuine craft beers in a 100% family-owned, independent environment that fosters innovation, inspiration and commitment to quality beer.

Today the brewery in Marvila consists of a 20 hl production brewery with 20, 40, and 60 hl fermentation tanks, bottling and kegging lines, and a public tasting room with 17 taps.

Our bottles and kegs are distributed throughout Portugal and beyond.

AROMA: predominant spicy alcohol notes with a low background lacqer note. medium-low slight sweet, grainy malt background. low hop notes with a citric caracter. APPEARANCE: golden color and translucent. large light ivory head and creamy, with medium retention. lace formation. TASTE: faint citric hop notes with a medium-low malty-sweet background. medium-high bitterness with a dry and bitter finish. PALATE: medium-light body with medium-high carbonation. slight alcohol warmth. OVERALL: an IPA that seems to have lost its hop presence.

AROMA: nice hop aroma with notes of stone fruit (some apricot), mixed with a complementary rye aroma. background of sweet malt. APPEARANCE: golden color and hazy. average light ivory head with good retention. TASTE: predominant hop flavour with notes like the aroma (some apricot and pine) with a slightly sweet malt and rye background. moderate bitterness that lasts into a semi-dry and somewhat bitter finish. PALATE: medium-light body with moderate carbonation. slight rye texture giving a somewhat smooth sensation. OVERALL: a nice APA with all the bells and whistles and with a complementary rye twist.

APPEARANCE: dark color and opaque with slight ruby highlights. large brown head with good retention. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium-high acidic flavor. medium-low roasted malt flavor (dark chocolate). medium to medium-high bitterness from roasted malts. finishes acidic and slightly roasted. PALATE: medium-light body. excessive carbonation. OVERALL: an imperial porter with signs of lactic contamination.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 16A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L0017. AROMA: moderate chocolate aroma with a slight sweet note. nutty aroma present. slight fruitness (dark fruits). APPEARANCE: very dark brown color and translucent, with ruby body against light. creammy tanned head with average retention. TASTE: nice sweet flavour with coffee and cream notes. hop bitterness on the low side. finishes roasty and sweet that evolves into a roasted driness. PALATE: medium body with low carbonation. OVERALL: a nice milk stout that resembles coffee and cream.

AROMA: initial faint cereal husl that vanishes. light to moderate sweet malty aroma with bready notes, low fruity aromas (orange-like). APPEARANCE: light gold color and just slightly hazy. medium-low white head with good retention. TASTE: soft malt flavour with a slightly sweet background and bready-like. faint esters (citrus-like). medium bitterness that lasts into an almost dry finish. PALATE: medium-light body with medium-high carbonation. smooth. OVERALL: a good blonde ale and very drinkable.

AROMA: medium hop aroma with predominant grapefruit and lime notes. low malt background with slight sweetness. APPEARANCE: deep gold color and clear. moderate off-white head with good retention. TASTE: predominant medium hop flavor with lime and grapefruit notes. slight sweet and low malt background. medium to medium-high bitterness with an almost dry and bitter finish. PALATE: medium-light body with medium carbonation. no hop derived astringency. OVERALL: a nice session IPA with a bit more bitterness than usual but with good hop presence.

AROMA: predominant hop aroma with a fruity character (passionfruit / ripe mango). slightly sweet malty background. almost imperceptible wheat. APPEARANCE: gold color and translucent. moderate-low white head with average-low retention. TASTE: predominant hop flavour with tropical fruit notes (passionfruit). wheat imperceptible. slightly sweet background. moderate bitterness that lasts beyond an almost dry and bitter finish. PALATE: medium-light body with average carbonation. OVERALL: altough the beer has no technical deficiencies, it resembles an APA rather than an American Weat Beer. Needs mode wheat presence and more balance with the hops.
