33 cL botle. Pours clear yellow with a white head. Aroma is corn and bitterhops. Flavour has the same in a rather boring mix with malt notes. Plain bitter finish.

Canned (brewed by Bombay Breweries, a part of UB.) Pale yellow. Ricey alcohol aroma. Sweet with rounded mouthfeel. There’s sugar cardboard and rice pudding. The sweetness hides some of the alcohol. No bitterness. Not good in anyway but perhaps above average as far as Indian beers go.

OK, Kingfisher lager from New York. Green 12 oz bottle with a twist off cap. When I bought this bottle at my local beer store, in my ignorance I thought I was getting an import. Oh well, lets go for it. When I pop the cap I am surprised there is no skunk aroma, just clean uncooked bread dough aroma with an ever so slight hint of citrus. If I didn’t know better, I would think this almost has the aroma of a floral/fruity big ale beer. You know they say with green bottles you quite often get the skunk. This beer is a little darker than your ubiquitous pale yellow american lager and it does have a little haze to it. No head but there is a girdle of white around the top of the brew against the inside edge of the glass. Very nice streams of carbonation rising within, makes this an attractive looking drink. The bubbles almost look champagne like in appearance. Slight bitter hops greet the tongue but not like the oppressiveness associated with big brews or IPA but it is IPA-ish in taste. This beer calls itself the world best Indian Lager and that it has a pleasantly bitter taste. I’m curious of what Indian lager means, is it the same vein as IPA? This has much more personality than the typical pale lager, I’m not sure how it can even be rated in the same style as pale lager. The bitterness is pleasant but may not be appreciated by gentle lager lovers. It seems to have much more of an alky content than what is stated on this site. I still say this is more like a weaker big ale than a lager. I think it may even be more offensive than a pilsner. Nice medium low carbonation on the back of the palate. Tho during tasting this beer comes across with much more personality than a pale lager, the finish is not too offensive nor lingering. There is some bitter medicinal qualities that last but nothing a gentleman can not deal with. Decent beer overall and perhaps a stepping stone for those who want to try beers with more impact than your wonted lager.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Brewed and bottled by Blossom Industries, India (trade mark owner: United Breweries, Bangalore). Imported to Norway by ITG. Golden colour, moderate head. Flowery aromatic hops, maybe some citrus too. Standard pale lager flavour without any offensive sidenotes, rather fizzy but with tolerable hops for the style. I’ll admit that my expectations were very low, but for an Indian pale lager this one is not too bad. At least it will be a tolerable accompaniment with your curry.

Bottled. Clear yellow, small head. Tart rice paper aroma. Sweet and bland with coarse rounded mouthfeel. No bitterness. No evident flaws, but tremendously dull.

Bottled. Maybe it deserves a 2 for the appearance, because it poured clear, pale golden with a minimal white head, but I somehow ended up with a 3. Aroma and flavor on the other hand didn’t get more than 2. The aroma is weak and citrusy, almost like a german radler. The flavor starts with hops and grains, then the radler-like feeling that were in the aroma comes through. Thin and watery mouthfeel and a citrusy finish with some hops and grains. I really don’t see the point with this beer. (070103)

Bottle: Yellow, faint aroma of malts. Taste is better than expected, but not great. Smooth malt taste with very little sour in the tail. Basic and unoffensive.

Kingfisher Premium Lager Beer, 0.33l green bottle brewed by Shepherd Neame in the UK, purchased at that odd Indian store in Graz.Poures a golden/yellow colour with a small head that went away really fast... rice and some hops in the nose. Ok malty taste, some rice, a bit "dusty" and maybe just a bit "eggy", some fine but very weak hopiness in the background and aftertaste. Didn’t impress me at all, but still a lot better than Thunderbolt.
