Description
Although officially knowns as the 'Ramsgate Brewery Ltd' the vast majority of beers are named/labelled/released as 'Gadds', after the founders.

Therefore new beers, if marketed as 'Gadds', should be entered without a brewery name before the beer name in standard Brewver fashion.

Beers haven't been released with the 'Ramsgate' prefix for some time but there are perhaps 20 or so more historic entries that were labelled as 'Ramsgate' on release. As such these appear with a Ramsgate prefix in front of the beer name. Any further historic adds to Brewver should follow suit if this is the case.

All beers were produced by the same brewer(s) and in the same facility.

Founded by Eddie and Lois Gadd, they have been making and championing great local beer for the last 15 years. Gadds’ have been making consistently good beer for a decade and a half. Both under their own name and more recently as a contract brewers for other breweries. This side project has also allowed them to let the Gadds’ brand grow slowly and in their own time.

Their core beers have been mostly traditional, English ales made with more than a nod to Kent’s brewing heritage. Although there are some more playful beers in their seasonal and limited run beers that show a diversity and appreciation of all things beer it seems that great, traditional beers are at the heart of Gadds’.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. A reddish dark brown beer topped by a dense, tan head. Malty and roasted nose with some dried fruits. Quite roasted flavor too, with some coffee and a little dash of dried fruits. Smooth, dry and full-bodied. Coffee-bitter finish. A beer that I couldn’t really pin, but a decent beer it sure is. 091024

Medium beige head. Dark red body. Intense barnyard and curd cowhide aroma with peppery vinegary notes. Dry-sweet cowhide sugary fruit taste with vinegary wooden notes. Mid-bodied. Dy-acidic fruity wooden barnyard aftertaste with sugary notes. Weird, weird, weird. Barley wine lambic, or an infection? (0.33l bottle shared by KnutAlbert.)

Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 2010. Really sorry Eddie, but I just didn?t get on with this at all. Bit of sweetness like condensed milk. Some hop on aroma. I just couldn?t finish a half. Will have it again to see if it has improved as Steve said he had it fresh from the fermenter and it tasted good 2.0/5.0 Rerate Old Brewery Tavern. Smoother than before. still a nalty ipa. still i am not quite sure. aroma is not the best but then the full mouthfeel and the building hop are really good. Cask handpull at Man of Kent, Rochester. Beautiful very very dark brown colouur, lasting beige head. Decent malts, tastes a bit like a Caledonian beer. Soft in mouth, slightly sweet on the end. Good interpretation of the style. Little bit watery on finish. Some dry malt, like a malty cake on finish. Not much hop. OK.

Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Cloudy brown pour with an off white head which soon vanishes. Sour, fruity aromas. Some toffee and caramel in there too. Flavours of caramel, prunes, raisins, quite vinous. Very warming alcohol. Quite an earthy, dry finish.

Bottle with a best before of 1/6/2010 thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a tan head and a deep brown body. Aroma of saltwater toffee and mocha. Taste is saltwater, bitter oyster-fishiness, chocolate and salt. A lot of oyster flavor compared to any oyster stout that I have had. Creamy carbonation.

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Cloudy golden pour with a medium white head. Good hoppy nose with malt and fruit notes. Flavour more understated than the US hop bombs, gently sweet with fruit and yeast notes. Decent body. Good stuff on the whole. Would definitely drink again, but seems that’s unlikely.

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Poured black with a reddish hue and a fading medium sized tan head which vanished to leave what looked like a glass of oil. The aroma had some licorice with dark chocolate notes. Flavour was gently sweet with similar traits to the aroma and some winter fruitiness mingling with the roasted malt character. All leading to a dryish bitter finish. Good one...
