On tap at Crucible, pours jet black with a small brown head. Aroma is abrasive, with roasted malt, lightly tart dark fruits and caramel. Flavour is abrasive and rich, with huge roasted malt, caramel, and intense alcohol. Quite harsh overall. Roasty and phenolic. Good, but too abrasive.

On tap at Crucible, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma brings out light English bready malt. Flavour is very odd, with English bready caramel malt, some herbaceous notes and grass. What a strange beer - not disastrous but I'm not a fan.

Draft pour pint at Special Brews. Part of my "I’m still learning hop profiles after all this time" series. I love these beers. A dark, copper orange pour with almost no head. Very soft aroma of subtle hops. Far less aromatic than your typical IPA. A bit disappointing. A biting hop bitterness up front, lighter body, grassy hop constant. Not really on the juicy side, or on the refreshing side. A sipper of an IPA for me, with strong qualities, which intrigues me on the series. Not bad, but less my type of IPA.

On tap at Crucible, pours a hazy copper golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out piney hops and resinous hop oils. Flavour is very oily, with tons of resinous hop oils and a rather sweet malt backbone. Super oily palate that is a bit burdensome. Not bad but a bit harsh. Decent.

On tap at Crucible, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of alcohol and some caramel, dark fruits. Flavour is very boozy and sweet, with intense phenols and sickly sweetness - the sweetness is from medicinal cherry cough syrup. Messy, boozy and harsh. Difficult to drink. Needs a lot of work.

On tap at Crucible, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out dry toasted malt, not much else, maybe some earthy coffee grounds. Flavour is along the same lines but more dominant, with robust toasted malt, a touch of dry cocoa and some earthy notes. Robust and well-balanced. Very good.

On tap at Crucible, pours a clear pale golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is extremely fruity, with lots of stone fruits and floral, resinous hops. Flavour is similar, with a very stone fruity hop character. Not getting any oat presence, but regardless, this is nice stuff.

On tap at Crucible, pours a hazy dark reddish brown with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and a little wood varnish. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted malt, a little wood varnish and dry red fruits. Nicely constructed with a lean body. Decent.

On tap at Crucible, pours a fairly clear golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is fairly fruity, with some floral notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of fruitiness, floral hops and toasted biscuity malt. Nicely expressive for a pale, with a solid balance. Good stuff.

A little disappointed that I am trying this before the non barreled version, but that’s okay. I know where they hang out. Draft pour at Hop and Hound, left over from brewers night. Looks like I missed a great night, but glad some beers survived to tonight. Copper pour with not much head. A sweet yet bold brown sugar aroma. Quite pleasant. The flavor seemed off for me at first, but as this warms a bit, the dark fruit, brown sugar, raisin, and caramel flavors all come out and present nicely. Has a doughy remainder that is quiet and not off putting. Slightly rich, but not enough to bother. Smooth bourbon notes without being boozy tasting, and a comfortable warming to it. Very impressed with this beer. I love to see barrel aged beers that are a little different in style and in overall flavor. Well executed barrel aged offering here.
