Bottle, Steamworks Liquor Store. Very dark brown, with a dark brown head. Aroma is campfire embers, and rich chocolate syrup. On the palate, a striking bitterness surprises me, then it gets smokey, bit ashy though, as opposed to really silky nice smoke. The chocolate is more of a bitter type, earthy, and a touch husky. That sort of ashy character continues through. Just when you want it to finish with a big hit of decadent chocolate, it thins out.

On tap at Strathcona, pours a hazy bronze orange with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out notes of bubblegum upfront, followed by candied sugar and lots of fruity esters. Flavour is very estery, with bubblegum, candied sugar and lots of fruity esters. Nothing like an authentic dubbel, as feared. Estery and messy. North American breweries need to go to Belgium to learn how to brew these styles.

On tap at Strathcona, pours black with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of toasted malt, a little cola and a hint of smoke. Flavour is a little more pronounced on the smoke, with a nice dry toasted malt backbone, with a little dry cocoa powder. Crisp finish, with just a hint of the smokiness coming through. Nicely structured, but not overly exciting.

Draught at the breweryCloudy light amber color, sparse head. Some smell of swamp water, and American Belgian yeast. Soft mouthfeel, with mild residual sweetness, not showing its strength; it has no malt depth, instead it has a strong character of candies from the fake yeast (think of American Tripel), and vegetables (tomatoes, celery), ending with a veil of pithy bitterness.
Most homebrew is better than this.
Frankly, poor beer for the uninformed drinker.

Bottle. Amber, hazy, minty fresh fruity hop nose. Slightly sticky pale malts with a light biscuity character. Refined hop character. Hint of alcohol and chewy malt late. Good balance, tasty. As for the sentence on the label proclaiming the beer to be made with "wild hops from locally sourced farmers"...that’s just awful.

On tap at Strathcona, pours a clear pale copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out wild yeast upfront, with nice fresh hopping and doughy malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with subdued wild yeast, bitter citrus hopping and a residual bitterness. Carbonation is way too soft, almost flat. Not bad, but very uninspired.

Draught at the brewery
Golden color, clean, with almost no head. The aroma is mild, earthy, manure. The mouthfeel is a bit oily, the malts are lean but also a bit chewy; traces of butter; strong bitterness, the hops give some resiny and vegetable character.
Mediocre.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dark gold with moderate head. Aromas of bread crusts, metal and stale grainy malts. Flavors of rye, earthy metallic yeast, dry fruity esters and dull candi sugar. Cardboardy finish. A touch of Belgium, the components are there, but in conflict. Needs some work.

Update - Muc( of the same bit a bit cleaner or more refined. Draft - Earthy and some weird cracker notes. Clear gold with a decent white head. Caramel and earthy notes with a dirty finish.
