Description
Coalition Brewing was born out of a serendipitous chance encounter between owners Kiley Hoyt and Elan Walsky. Both began as home brewers and received formal brewing education through the Siebel Institute in Chicago.
Their love of beer and the brewing process is the impetus for the Coalator Program, which encourages local home brewers to brew their recipes in the brewery and serve them at the pub.
Coalition Brewing prides itself on highly balanced, drinkable beers.
Admin Note: Coalition closed in 2019 after being purchased by Gorges Beer Co.

King kitty red ale 5.8% 60 IBU a deep reddish brown with an off-white head. The taste is a bitter biscuit maltiness with a citrusy peppery flavor. Ok.

Tap at Bud. Orange-brown, clear, with a low head. Nose of chocolate, caramel, rich, malty nose like a brown ale. big caramel and toffee flavor, but very bitter as well. Malty and bitter brown ale really.

22 oz bottle poured. This is one of those beers that just sounds delicious. Maple? Good! Porter? Good!! I purchased this with the idea that there was no way possible it could be bad. Certainly did not disappoint, though it’s not mind blowing like I had hoped. Pours a dark copper brown with a full inch of soda foam head Soft chocolate malt aroma. Flavor is chocolate forward, and maybe a hint of maple? It could just be that I know it’s there. A bit of a cinnamon spice, chocolate finish. All flavors here are mild, and I was expecting more of a big bold maple out of it. All in all, I enjoyed this.

Bottle from World Beer Market. A nice opaque orange gold, it’s got an inviting spicy aroma with wheat notes. The taste is tart, lactic with metallic Brett flavors. It was nice on a sunny day.

Bomber from World Beer Market on sale as it was near it’s "expiry" date. 600 yen so dirt cheap for Japan. Coalition Rooster’s Cream Ale 4.8%, served in my footed pilsner glass it poured a deep golden brass color with a soapu head of foam. The aroma is honeyed graham and subtle perfumey hops. Raspy carbonation on a med-light body. The taste is surprisingly earthy, chewy honeyed malts, a bit of biscuit and some floral perfumey hops. Not bad.

On tap at Coalition, pours a clear dull yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out loads of pickles, with lots of salty brine. Flavour brings out salty dill pickles with the brine and everything. I like dill pickles, but it's a strange addition in beer. Okay experiment.

On tap at Coalition, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out the lime upfront - maybe a touch of salt. Flavour is big on tart lime - not really getting the salt. The lime addition isn't clean nor refreshing - it's more tart and earthy. Not so good.

On tap at Coalition, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out fermented out honey - there's a tinge of sweetness but it's pretty dry overall. Flavour brings out fermented out wild honey, leaving a dry biscuity palate. Kind of nice, but has a minerally finish I'm not so fond of. Okay.

On tap at Coalition, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma reveals notes of floral hops, light fruitiness and crackery malt. Flavour is fruity and herbal in the hop department, balanced by sufficient biscuity malt. Nothing overly interesting but it's clean. Okay.

On tap at Coalition, pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma has a bit of diacetyl that dominates. Flavour isn't as infected, with light floral hops and biscuity malt, and ever so slight hint of diacetyl. Not a disaster but it's off.
