The name was inspired by the windswept beaches here in Lossiemouth on the Moray coast where like-minded adventurers gather to pursue their outdoor passions whatever the weather. Al and Nigel felt strongly that the brand should capture the spirit of rugged adventure found here on the edge of the Scottish Highlands. After all, a great pint tastes best when you’ve earned it.
All of our bottled beer is bottle conditioned. A small amount of yeast is added at bottling which allows the beer to ferment further in the bottle. This creates a natural soft carbonation with smaller bubbles. Light filtration and a minimum of mechanical intervention also help to retain all the vivid and defined hop flavours that our brewers work hard to get into the beer. The result – real ale in a bottle.

Cask at The Shore Inn, Portsoy. It pours amber with a thick off-white head. The nose is soft citrus fruit, wood, cooked apple and a touch of caramel. The taste is earth, wood, leather, decent bitterness, orange and tangerine with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not really an APA, but a tasty beverage nonetheless.

April 2013 original rate. Bottle from Deeside Drink Emporium. It pours deep ruby with a small beige head. The nose is wood, earth, caramel, dark fruit and dried berry. The taste is dark fruit, faint berry, vinous, light jam, wood, earth, caramel, light astringency, some bitterness and touch of alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Good depth of flavour and drinks pretty damn smoothly. 3.7. Drank it many times since. Good condition on cask this is brilliant. Great depth of flavour. Great depth of malt action. 3.9

Bottle from Deeside Drink Emporium. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is orange, mandarin, rather zesty, caramel and chamomile. The taste is zesty orange, tangerine, wood, earth and floral notes with a dry, citric finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Decent zesty golden ale.

2nd rate @ Skerry Brae [310113]...this is really good, super fruity dark malts, so smooth and the abv is so so so well hidden. 3.8 > 3.9 ... I’d love to taste their take on a stout or Black IPA....
Cask @ Skerry Brae, Lossiemouth 130113
Dark chestnut brown, clear, dense off white head good lacing
Aroma of caramel malts, soft dark malts, soft dark fruits
Taste of dark sweetish malts, dark fruits, raisins, hint of liquorice, dab of blackcurrant, nice dark juicy fruit malts, touch of jam, some bitter hops in background, no alcohol
Palae - Medium body, smooth, good mouth feel, fairly sweet palate. Finish as main flavour, fruity dark malts in the linger with a hint of roasted malt
Overall - A distinctive flavour in this beer - it’s very nice

Cask @ Skerry Brae, Lossiemouth 130113
Amber, slight haze, dense thin white head, good lacing
Aroma - light cereal malts, touch of hay, very soft citrus hops
Taste - Dryish bitter hops, very bready malts, white bread, very slight smoke, dab of fruity malts, hint of toasted malt, touch of orange, some bitter zest, unusual take on the style
Palate - Medium body, some tang on the palate. Particularly dry finish, dryish toffee and biscuit in the linger, touch of jam, also some bitter hops, bit powdery too, quite a complex finish.
Overall - It was the bready malt that surprised me with this and it has a complex finish. Not a lot of citrus/fruit flavour/aroma hop, more bitter hops, Doesn’t come across as typical APA, but there isn’t anything wrong with that.
