Description
The Budelse Brouwerij (Budels Brewery) is a family business that still values the traditions that have guided the brewery for centuries now. It's been at the very heart of the village of Budel in Brabant since 1870. Founded 150 years ago by Gerardus Arts as Brouwerij de Hoop (the Hope Brewery). Today, the fourth generation of the Arts family is at the helm and we are just as committed to the brewing as our ancestors.

I am not as enthousiastic as jbrus was. The aroma and taste of roasted malt was a bit too much, especially as the beer was rather dry for a Dutch bock beer. For a bockbeer it was a little on the thin side. Nevertheless a decent bockbeer. Tasted in october 2001. Blindfold test: 2005 version. Caramel aroma. Medium to full bodied. Hints of roasted malt, caramel, some hops in the background. Amaretto liquor. (6 3 7 3 13 = 3.2) Same rating for the 2006 version, tasted in nov 06. Caramel and malt in the aroma. Malty, bready caramelly flavor with some roasted malt. relatively dry for a Dutch bock. Good!

Malty aroma with just a bit of vinegar in aroma and flavor. Dusty and a bit vinous. Malty flavor, bitter (not from hops) and butterscotch. Just a touch of smokiness. Somewhat dirty palate. (6 3 5 2 10 = 2.6) I was much more pleased with the 2006 tap version. Creamy mouthfeel. Roasted malt in the aroma, with speculaas and caramel. Sweetish and somewhat syrupy, like coughing syrup. The higher rating is well deserved.

Grassy aroma with a bit of orange. Almost sweetish, with just a hint of hops and orange. Superbland after all those Franconian lagers, but this beer is and not as bad as you might expect.
