Description
The Budelse Brouwerij (Budels Brewery) is a family business that still values the traditions that have guided the brewery for centuries now. It's been at the very heart of the village of Budel in Brabant since 1870. Founded 150 years ago by Gerardus Arts as Brouwerij de Hoop (the Hope Brewery). Today, the fourth generation of the Arts family is at the helm and we are just as committed to the brewing as our ancestors.

Originally rated January 2006. Pours a pale golden colour with lots of carbonation. The white head goes down fast, but lacing comes to the rescue. Ah yes, honey is present in the nose, with slight malt. It is also in the taste, but very lightly, with not much else to pump up the mouth. In the aftertaste, mild grain and bitterness shows up. Definitely not as sweet and full of honey like the Florisgaarden Honey. Not too bad, but a bit too light in all departments.

Originally rated January 2006. Pours a golden colour with some copper in it. The fizzy white head has good retention and lace. Quite foamy and wavy, looks like mountains. Medium carbonation. Alcohol is really present in the nose, with some grain malt and hop bitterness. Oily mouthfeel. The taste is not bad though, but light (like all of their other brews so far). Slightly bitter, slightly dry, with a half chemical aftertaste and some metal. Not as bad as it sounds, but would rather try the cask version of this brew, at 4.8% ABV.

Originally rated January 2006. Best before date is May 2006. Pours a nice clean amber colour with a slight tanned head that leaves good lacing. Spicy nose with some aromas of roasted malt. Watery mouthfeel. The taste is not much, but some metallic aftertaste. Some bitterness in the finish. Like other Budels product, nothing fancy, nothing crazy offensive, just blah.

Originally rated January 2006. Last of the Budels brew, part of the 6 pack I got from the LCBO. None of the other brews got my attention, let’s see with this one. Pours a darker colour, like caramel and cola together. Head is tanned, foamy and fizzy, with good retention and very nice lacing. Lively carbonation. The nose had some roasted malts, molasse and hints of Oud Bruin scents, right after pour. It disappear a few minutes after. Medium-bodied palate. Very pleasant taste with some caramel, toffee, raisins and roasted malts. By far, the best Budels, and the only one that is worth trying.

Draught @ Gastropub Tuulensuu as "Budels Herfstbock"
Aroma is sweet with brown sugar - feels like belgian strong. Flavour is sweet with syrup, brown sugar, honey and some spices. Malty finish with some alcohol, sugary aftertaste. Rather sweet bock, but sugar-sweet and not malt-sweet like bocks usually are. A ’belgian bock’, I’d say.

Amber like colour with a decent white head. Smells boiling malts, tastes the same. Bit flat and boring.

Bottle @ home. Nothing really special, just a decent witbier that’s likely to taste best on a terrace on a hot summer day. Hazy yellow color, citrussy smell, taste sweet and fruity, average carbo and body.

Bottle @ home as "Budels Herfstbock". Very nice deep dark brown / red / amber colored beer, off-white head. Smell malts and caramel. Decent taste again with malts and caramel. Not really special but a decent beer.
