Description
Fremont Brewing was born of our love for our home and history as well as the desire to prove that beer made with the finest local ingredients – organic when possible --, is not the wave of the future but the doorway to beer's history. Starting a brewery in the midst of the Great Recession is clearly an act of passion. We invite you to come along with us and enjoy that passion -- because beer matters.

Pours an oily, translucent, black with some spitty, beige head. Nose of caramel, cake icing, cola, vanilla, malt. Sweet, malty flavor, raisins, caramel, chalky. Full, boozy finish. Needs a lot more time, it’s a little harsh.

333 c&c from Malt & Vine. Pours dirty dark gold with a 4 finger foamy white head. Light brett aroma with light pitted fruit. Med body or better. It’s earthy and lightly bretty with fruit. Slightly oaky. Better than many saisons.

On tap at Bottleworks, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is very skunky, with loads of herbal, pot-like hops and some doughy malt. Flavour is very fresh, full of skunky, herbal hops, some pot, and a bit of doughy malt to back without really influencing the flavour. Well-crafted and highly drinkable. Surprised me that this is classified as an APA, not IPA.

Bottle: Deep brown and auburn color with a small creamy beige head. Nose is sweet of caramel malts and light florals. Flavor is sweet and robust with caramel, toffee, faded citrus hops, and chocolate. I let this sit in the cellar longer than I wanted to, but in it’s (presumably) more mellow state the flavor still comes through strong and well balanced.

375mL bottle, courtesy of julian, pours a cloudy golden with a medium white head. Aroma is very yeasty, with lots of brett, moderate funk, a bit of white wine and a slight tang. Flavour is very yeasty and dry, with lots of brett, loads of dry white wine oak barrels and very subtle fruity tang. Very lively carbonation which is suitable for this one. Excellent saison.

Black colour with compact head. Aroma of coffee, old wood, bourbon, alcohol. Full bodied, sweet, smooth; dark chocolate flavour, with a hint of coffee, and strong spirit.
Bold, lovely.

2020-08-29, vintage 2015, 14.5% ABV, 8-4-9-4-17=42
Intense chocolate and bourbon, no signs of aging.

Dark chocolate, burnt sugar, sweet, as usual; this vintage seems to have more liquorice, more salt than previous ones; the alcohol is strong, but not the bourbon flavour.

Rich chocolate aroma with a touch of vanilla (8.5). Rich chocolate flavour with strong alcohol, moderate sweetness, strong bourbon too.

2017-03-25, bottle, vintage 2014, 11% on label, 8-4-9-4-17=42
Rich chocolate, with a touch of dark fruits, enough alcohol, nice bourbon. Excellent.

2012-09-21, bottle from CoOp Bellingham, as Kentucky Dark Star, 8-4-7-4-15=38
Dark color, almost black, with brownish head. The aroma is very nice, clearly vanilla oak first of all. Good chocolate flavor, medium sweet, with strong oak presence, sweet, vanilla, light alcohol and phenols.
A bit over the top, but not bad.
