5.2/10 — Appearance 6 Aroma 5 Flavor 5 Texture 6 Overall 5
On draught at the brewpub, 4/09/2005. Slight chill haze to the orange-peach-apricot colored body, with, yet again, no head (foam on the edges, rapidly dissipates). Aroma of light orange fruits, not very bitter, mixed with honey and corn. Flavor of corn, sweet malt, sugary bread dough, candy corn candy, lightly fruity hops, not very much bitterness, though some comes in on the finish, which is somewhat drier than the rest of the beer. Medium to medium-light body, very low carbonation, moderately watery.

On draught at the brewpub, 4/9/2005. Dark amber-chestnut brown color, with a beige head, low retention (but at least it had a head). Mostly clear. Aroma of hops bitterness, light pine and floral notes, with some sticky orange-caramel interaction and very light yeast. Flavor begins with sticky caramel sweetness, followed quickly by hops bitterness. Unfortunately, it stays quite dry and bitter, with some chewy malt texture on the end, but not really much flavor, other than the bitter hops. I’d like to see more hops flavor and less bitterness. Very low, yet ample, carbonation, medium body with no alcohol apparency. The munich malt is apparent from the get-go, with that lightly grainy/lightly sour/dry flavor, slight earthiness and sourdough breadiness.

On draught at the brewpub 4/9/2005. I enjoyed that they proudly served this without nitrogen. Small greyish-beige head, rapidly dissipating, above a dark brown-black body. Aroma is quite good for a style which usually has trouble mounting much of an aroma, especially out of a convex glass in a brewpub. Licorice, mocha, sweet chocolate and light caramel, with a strong sense of vanilla beans. Flavor is fairly strong initially, with chewy choco-vanilla notes, turning in to light coffee and a lightly chewy caramel and barley malt flavor on the end. No hops and low carbonation, but enough to add some decent texture. Not overly watery, one of the least watery I have tried of the style, anyways. Another sample of this proved to be somewhat less enjoyable, as I drank the whole pint. Perhaps the chocolate just got a little boring and there is no yeastiness. Still a very enjoyable beer, and probably my favorite of the seven I tried while there.

On draught 4/9/2005 at the brewpub. Yet another beer with no head and very low carbonation. I liked that all of their beers had very low carbonation, but this one took it a bit too far and just seemed flat, lifeless and watery on the palate. A reddish-amber color, with orange highlights. Clear. Aroma is nearly non-existant, a little crystal malt, light caramel, slightly metallic. Flavor is sugary sweet, though the lack of a very large flavor profile keeps it from getting cloying. Not much variation on the caramel, with some very lightly toasted grains, barely perceptible. Very watery consistency, would not be able to blindly identify sesame as an ingredient in this. Medium-light to light body, watery, no carbonation, sticky, unpleasant sugary syrup flavor on the end.

On draught at the brewpub, 4/9/2005. Light pale-gold appearance, intensely clear with no head to be retained. Aroma of soft grass, a shot of light yeast, a touch of bitterness and light grain husk. Flavor is very dry, highly attenuated but not as watery as I expected. Light crispness on the end, with no terribly off flavors. A bit of soapiness, dry grains and maybe a hint of floweriness. Light body, low carbonation.

On draught at the brewpub, 4/09/2005. Light golden-yellow, extremely clear. Any head it may have had is gone by the time it gets from the tap to my table. Aroma of light grains, a touch of yeast, lightly salty. Flavor is bittersweet at first, a hint of honey and light caramel, with some grassiness and yeast on the finish. There is noticeable malt up front, (the honey/caramel) and though it gets quite watery, I didnt find it to be anything out of the ordinary for this low of an abv. A touch soapy and lightly metallic as it warms. Not much of a Scottish ale, more a mild or bitter, to which I will rate it.

April 2004. Gold to deep copper ale. Sweet aroma and floral hops well married. A good malt base with a sustained bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied. OK beer.

Golden ale with a sweet aroma of orange drops candies and floral hops. Resinous and floral hops in mouth, very west coast freshness. Light to medium body.
